BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
My interest in radio started back in high school and since then, I always wanted be in the radio industry. After graduating in 1999, I was unable to afford any type of formal training or college courses, so after working for a bit at a local car dealership I decided to join the U.S. Navy to serve my country and earn my way towards an education starting in August 2001. Everywhere I traveled I had an AM/FM GE Portable Radio with me thinking one day I can be heard on it! The radio and I have been to nine different countries.
After being deployed twice, first aboard USS Constellation and then USS Enterprise consecutively during Op. Enduring/Iraqi Freedom, I was honorably discharged from active duty in 2005 I decided to go to school for Radio/TV Broadcasting, IT and Communications Studies while briefly working in the industry participating in various promotional events, board operating, producing audio, and traffic producing. Now I'm looking to get back in. So now you know a little bit more about me, who wants to bring a bright, dedicated, motivated, skilled vibrant talent on to their broadcast team?
1) What has been your biggest career accomplishment?
Besides serving our country in the U.S. Navy on-board USS Constellation CV-64 and the "TOP GUN" Aircraft Carrier USS Enterprise CVN-65 during Op. Enduring/Iraqi Freedom, my biggest accomplishment was being a Z100 New York Traffic Producer.
2) Are you spending as much time listening to radio as you used to?
Yes, I listen to the radio every day to keep up with the latest entertainment, pop culture and music news. I also follow radio airplay charts on All Access Mediabase 24/7 and The Billboard Hot 100 and 200 Charts.
3) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Either producing content for broadcast on-air, online via websites, OR anything to do with music and broadcast operations, including being on-air. This could be alone OR with a morning show type atmosphere.
4) Do you plan on sticking with radio?
Yes, if I am able to find a company willing to invest in me and give me a chance to excel on their broadcast team!
5) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
I have my very own social media radio show called Social Media Maverick Radio, where I use social media as a platform to inform, enlighten and entertain my friends/followers. The show I produce, which is strictly constructed from online entertainment, music and pop culture news content, can be found on Facebook and Twitter @BrianDNYCRadio and/OR by using #maverickradio(tm) OR #maverickradio(tm) on Facebook!
6) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
I am constantly keeping up with media and events happening on/in radio and secondly as mentioned in my previous answer, I operate my own social media radio show, Social Media Maverick Radio(tm) via Facebook and Twitter, which provides the most interactive intriguing discussion around the Internet!
7) What's the longest stretch you've had on the beach?
I'm a two- time Op. Enduring/Iraqi Freedom Protected U.S. Navy Veteran who hasn't worked since January 2008.
8) What has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
Logging on to All Access and by going directly to company websites to seek employment.
9) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied? (Callbacks, e-mails, rejection letters, etc.)
Most of my rejections have been via e-mail and polite, but I've started replying to those with a counter-argument stating reasons why a particular company is losing out on a golden opportunity in hiring me.
10) If you were offered a similar position to what you were doing for considerably less money, would you seriously consider taking the job just to stay in the biz?
I place my monetary value based on my level of education, expertise, experience and skill level. I've been out of paid work for a very long time, therefore I believe I deserve better and have no intention of settling for less than what I am worth; and that's the bottom line because Brian Jay said so! So, now that this intriguing questionnaire is just about done and you know a little bit more about me, who wants to bring a bright, dedicated, motivated, skilled vibrant talent on to their broadcast team?
