November 22, 2016Growth Shouldn't Make You Feel Guilty
Do You Ever Feel Guilty For Wanting To Grow?
I recently did a consultation for a new client who is one of the highest achievers I've had the pleasure of working with. She is beautiful, intelligent, and accomplished. She lives in a swanky apartment, has the financial freedom to travel when she wants, and job security for life.
And she is also completely bored.
As we spoke, I could sense a tremendous sense of guilt about this.
"I know I am so blessed, I have a wonderful life. And I know I sound like an ungrateful b***h for saying this...."
I had to step in and cut her off. What I shared with her is what I want to stress to you today.
Your desire to grow is not selfish. The entire purpose of your existence is to grow into the most beautiful, magnificent, fully realized version of yourself.
November 1, 2016What Halloween Can Teach Us About Personal Growth
As part of our Halloween celebration, my girlfriend and I went on a Paranormal ghost tour of the 4th most haunted building in America. It was a truly creepy experience. We have several pictures of white orbs floating across a pitch-black theater, and even one that ...
October 25, 2016Are You Distracted Or Disinterested?
We live in a culture where A.D.D. has become our go-to reason for why we can’t focus on the task at hand. For me, it was a crutch at my last radio job, a home for the unending parade of pointless, corporate meetings with little purpose other than to set up the ...
October 4, 2016The 3 Things Blocking You From Your Goals
THERE ARE REALLY ONLY THREE REASONS YOU AREN'T WHERE YOU WANT TO BE IN LIFE. 1) You haven't created a clear, compelling vision. When I began my own personal development journey, my coach asked me what would make me happy. I spoke eloquently for 25 minutes about ...
September 13, 2016You Should Go And Love Yourself
One of the biggest roadblocks to experiencing lasting, meaningful fulfillment lies in our inability to establish a daily self-love practice. We wake up in the morning and head straight for the phone, responding to emails and placing ourselves at the mercy of the ...
September 7, 2016Be Interested. Not Interesting.
By their very nature, most air talent are “class clowns” who thrive on being the center of attention. When sitting in front of a microphone, they are fearless, outrageous, and willing to go to any length to get a laugh. The best ones are fantastic story ...
August 16, 2016Are You Truly Living? Or Just Avoiding Death?
I know, it's not the most inspiring title for a self-development column. But go with me on this. It's an important lesson. Last week my girlfriend and I had to say goodbye to her grandmother, who passed away at the age of 91. The death was not a surprise, as she had ...
August 2, 2016The Ups And Downs Of Ratings (And Life)
The Spring ratings are out, which is good news for some and unfortunate for many. We know only one station can occupy the #1 spot, meaning more stations are left to course correct as they work towards a goal than there are stations who sit atop the mountain. But if ...
"However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results." - Winston Churchill When a brand fails to deliver ratings and/or revenue over an extended period of time, it usually leads management to course correct. In our industry, that means a format ...
July 12, 2016The Addiction To Validation
It's hard to argue with those who feel that social media has become the biggest addiction of our generation. In fact, having just recently come off of a self-imposed 30-day social media "cleanse," I can attest to how difficult it was to quit cold turkey. In fact, the ...
