October 25, 2016Are You Distracted Or Disinterested?
We live in a culture where A.D.D. has become our go-to reason for why we can’t focus on the task at hand.
For me, it was a crutch at my last radio job, a home for the unending parade of pointless, corporate meetings with little purpose other than to set up the next, equally pointless follow up meeting. As higherups would wax poetic for 15 minutes about why it’s important to still call a brand “new” after four years, I found my mind wandering to what I’d eat for lunch, or thinking about my fantasy football team.
Yet, when I could have a conversation with my morning show about brainstorming for an upcoming bit, I felt engaged and completely present.
After leaving the job, I realized that I wasn’t A.D.D. I was just suffocating in an environment that valued process more than creativity.

August 2, 2016The Ups And Downs Of Ratings (And Life)
The Spring ratings are out, which is good news for some and unfortunate for many. We know only one station can occupy the #1 spot, meaning more stations are left to course correct as they work towards a goal than there are stations who sit atop the mountain. But if ...
"However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results." - Winston Churchill When a brand fails to deliver ratings and/or revenue over an extended period of time, it usually leads management to course correct. In our industry, that means a format ...
July 12, 2016The Addiction To Validation
It's hard to argue with those who feel that social media has become the biggest addiction of our generation. In fact, having just recently come off of a self-imposed 30-day social media "cleanse," I can attest to how difficult it was to quit cold turkey. In fact, the ...
