How To Find More Fulfillment In 2017

The statistics are shocking. Per the Gallup Organization, 2 in 3 American workers are disengaged in their jobs. Statistically speaking, two-thirds of your co-workers would rather be anywhere than the office.
It's not hard to understand why. On average, American employees spend 47 hours a week in the office, almost a full workday more than what was once considered the standard. That number doesn't even account for the work that gets brought home on nights and weekends, which could very well push the number up in the 55-hour range.
Given the fact there are only 168 available hours in a week, it's possible that most Americans spend the majority of their time doing the things which bring them the least amount of joy.
This is the recipe for finding yourself successful, but unfulfilled.
For the music industry, the line between work and free time has become more blurred than ever. Air talents are now expected to carry their phone and Instagram and Snapchat every moment of their life as part of building a "personal brand." After a day of overseeing multiple brands, programmers are out at record dinners and showcases, which while fun on the surface, ultimately take time away from family, friends, and personal interests. General managers find themselves pulling double duty, as their responsibilities are no longer managing a single cluster, but now multiple markets.
Even taking time off the week of Christmas can be overwhelming, as many jocks had to voicetrack as many as 50 extra shows and Music Directors were scheduling 10-15 logs before they could shut it down for the year.
For many clients who come to me (both in and out of radio), the question becomes how do we put the "balance" back in "Life-work Balance" this year? Is it even possible?
Perhaps the best place to start is by defining fulfillment. What I see is for many people who find themselves feeling "stuck," it's because they have looked for fulfillment outside of themselves. They thought it would come when they got the job in the bigger market, the nicer car, the bigger house, or the next relationship.
While all those things provide a short-term boost of happiness, they don't yield long term results.
Lasting fulfillment only happens one way...
You must be connected to yourself and something bigger.
"Something bigger" means many different things to many people. It can be God, The Universe, Nature, a cause, a corporation, or a community.
However, if you are only connected to yourself, you are a narcissist. If you are only connected to something bigger, you might be so caught in taking care of everyone else that you have put your needs last. If this happens over time, it can be easy to lose all connection to yourself.
This is why coaching is invaluable. My work is about helping people reconnect back to who they are, identify the core emotions that drive them, then figure out how to give that emotion away to others in a way that serves the greater good.
It looks simple in print, but can take a lifetime to master.
If you are a person who is feeling unfulfilled, whether it be in your career, relationships, health, or overall sense of purpose, I've created a simple assessment test to help you stop misdirecting your energy in 2017.
After investing tens of thousands of dollars in my own personal development training, and combining it with the lessons I've learned through coaching clients in 5 countries, I've identified the 8 core areas that create a life of lasting fulfillment.
In 5 minutes, this test will help you identify what areas you have been ignoring, and help you set powerful intentions to create more fulfillment and joy in the New Year.
