Believing In Yourself Until It Comes True
You don't have to see it to believe it, but you do have to envision it in your head, if you ever expect it to materialize in real life; and sometimes it helps to actually say it with your lips.
The date was July 17th, 1993, my first day working as a night jock at 93Q, WNTQ in Syracuse. I had just gotten through the jitters of executing my first live break when into the studios walked Darryl "Thomas" Ledyard, one of the station's great utility on-air personnel, who is still an air talent in Syracuse, now at B104.
He was a tad fascinated with my resume', mostly my last three years, where I had spent most of that time at 93-3 WFLZ, The Power Pig in Tampa.
He began firing off questions, one of which was extremely pointed. "Where do you see yourself after this?" he asked.
AND THE PROPHET ANSWERED HIM
I responded confidently, "I'll be here for two years, and then I'll get a PD gig in a bigger market."
Bold words, especially since I hadn't ever been a PD yet, and more so, because I wasn't even the music director at WNTQ, but instead, just the night jock.
Fast forward two years later, the date July 17th, 1995, my first day as the PD of WFBC, B93.7, an oldies station in Greenville SC, that had just flipped to Top 40.
Speaking positively into your life, about your life, is simply another form of having faith; and it is faith that has carried many of us during those times when we had no control in the outcome.
POSITIVITY! TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT!
Try it. Maybe you're up for a job right now and you're thinking things like, 'there's no way I'll get this job,' or worse than thinking it...saying it out loud. Instead, begin envisioning yourself in the job and change your inner and outer dialogue to be saying, "When I'm there, I will do this, or do that..." and just see if it doesn't begin producing a fruitful outcome in your life.
I love watching the NFL Networks series, A Football Life. In one of the episodes they were spotlighting the career of Michael Strahan, and three times in the episode, Strahan spoke of future things positively, even though the outcomes hadn't occurred yet.
The first was when he played for the NY Giants and they were losing in the Super bowl, but it was Strahan keeping coach Tom Coughlin calm, then proclaiming from the sidelines, "Final Score 17-14, one touchdown, we are World Champions, believe it, and it will happen."
See it in this video from about the 4:30 mark to 6 minutes, and enjoy!
SPEAK IT INTO EXISTENCE
In this next video, only :48 seconds in, Michael is asked by reporters what his epilogue would be 50 years from now. Michael says, "Michael went on to be 100 times more successful in broadcasting than he was in football." He mentions TV and movies and it all came true.
What's even MORE AMAZING is in this same clip, at 1 minute 18 seconds, Regis Philbin asks Michael Strahan what he's gonna do now that football is over. Michael makes a quip about Regis steppin' aside.
It happened 2 and a half years later. It wasn't planned. Michael said it. He believed it. And when time came to have it come to fruition, it did.
What's that dream that you want to have happen in your life?? Well, let's start here...let Michael Strahan be your inspiration..."BELIEVE IT AND IT WILL HAPPEN!"
