At the local Cop Shop:
Indianapolis police officials have apologized to 13 female officers after their bra size, height and weight were included in a departmental e-mail last week.
According to the Indianapolis Star, the e-mail was sent to 37 district commanders and was intended to tell supervisors to inform their officers that their new protective vests were ready to be picked up.
The police union was exploring a possible grievance or legal action after several of the female officers said they were upset.
Editor's note: Bra size? The real transgression was in sending out their weights! Heads should roll! (Maiman)Filling a need:
Did you see this? The Albertson's supermarket chain is getting rid of those self-checkout registers in all of its 217 stores in seven states.
An analyst told the Dallas Morning News that the grocery business is extremely competitive in Dallas and as existing chains expand and new ones move in, it's "inspiring grocery chains to rethink everything they do."
Phoner: Is this a victory for man over robots? Will you miss them? Are they good just for the one- or two-item shopping trip, or do you prefer interaction with the cashier at the register? (Maiman)Broadcast, cable and video news:
See ya: CHRIS HANSEN, the host of that NBC show, "To Catch a Predator," has been fired after reports surfaced last month (in a sting by the National Enquirer supermarket tabloid) that he'd been caught cheating on his wife.
The NY Post reports NBC was set to name Chris as the new "Dateline" anchor next month after ANN CURRY segues over to the "Today" show, but that's out now.Grace notes:
ROB GRILL, bass player and singer for THE GRASS ROOTS has died. He suffered a serious injury when he fell last month and has been in and out of a coma ever since. His wife, NANCY confirmed that Rob passed away yesterday morning in her arms while listening to one of his favorite songs, "Live For Today." Rob was 67. (Marino)
Remember DEXY's MIDNIGHT RUNNERS? They had a number one single in 1983 with "Come On Eileen," then disappeared after making one last studio album in 1985. NME.com says the band is just known as DEXYS these days, and they are working on their first new release in 25 years. Singer KEVIN ROWLAND is still with the group, and they are now joined by former STYLE COUNCIL keyboard player, MICK TALBOT. (Marino)
Running with the Bulls:
During this morning's run there were two gorings in just two minutes as the bulls from Victoriano del Rio returned for just their second time. It was a "lightning fast" run --the ninth fastest run ever-- causing multiple falls and trip-ups by the runners. With that in mind, here's today's final Running of the Bulls "GoreBoard" (patent & trademark pending):
"GoreBoard" Total: 25 injured, 5 gored (no Americans or Canadians).
FYI and disclaimer: I do not speak anything more than rudimentary Spanish, and the early postings at press time (4:30 am) are not in English. Thanks to WOGL-FM News Director Bill Zimpfer for the use of the term, "Goreboard" (trademark pending). Those @$#%* Foreigners:
Babies need exercise too-- wait, what?
At least, that's what new exercise guidelines from the UNITED KINGDOM's health department say. These guidelines recommend one to five year olds get at least three hours of physical activity per day. The report also states that children ages two through five should only have one hour of TV or computer time per day. Kids younger than two should have no computer time at all.
The Centers for Disease Control and Pervention recommends an hour or more of physical activity a day for children, but the U-S currently has no guidelines for young children. But one in seven low-income preschoolers in the U-S is obese. Not overweight-- obese.
Two out of three adults in America are either overweight or obese as well.
