Those @$#%* Foreigners:
Don't look for Britain's QUEEN ELIZABETH II to go anywhere, anytime soon. According to the new book, "Elizabeth the Queen," her majesty reportedly told her cousin, that she's never retiring "unless I get Alzheimer's or have a stroke."
The queen is about to mark 60 years on the British throne. (Pacelli)What's the Buzz:
Cuss for a good cause! CharitySwearBox.com is a new website that tracks your twitter feed for swear-words. Register and they’ll send you a monthly tally of how many times you swore, and you can pledge a percentage per profanity to charity.
The site has a list of charities to choose from and a swear dictionary in case you’re wondering what’s kosher. (“Damn” seems to be okay while “boobs” is red-flagged. Whatever. Also every type of racial, ethnic and gender-based slur.)
So when somebody calls you on your potty-mouth on twitter, you have an excuse. You’re welcome. (Kaye)Fashion Emergency:
The makers of the Barbie doll are under pressure to start mass-producing a bald Barbie.
Last year, Mattel created a one-of-a-kind bald Barbie doll for a four-year-old girl suffering from cancer, but that sparked several online campaigns calling for bald Barbies on store shelves.
Supporters of the bald Barbie say it will "help boost the self-esteem in women and children experiencing hair loss from cancer treatment... and other diseases that cause" hair loss.
As of yesterday, the Beautiful and Bald Barbie had more than 14-thousand supporters on Facebook. (Bartha)Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
The "Jersey Boys" film is a go. Deadline.com says JOHN LOGAN, who wrote the screenplays for "Hugo," "The Gladiator" and other big movies will adapt the Broadway musical for the big screen. FRANKIE VALLI and BOB GAUDIO of THE FOUR SEASONS will sit in the executive producers' chairs. (Marino)
Animal Stories:
New York City subway workers are holding a contest to find the "nastiest" rodent living in the subway.
CNews reports subway commuters are being encouraged to upload rat photos to at ratfreesubways.com. The website was designed by the Transport Workers Union, the city’s largest transit union. Visitors to the "Rate my Rat" section of the website can vote to decide the most disgusting rodent.
The idea behind the website --and contest-- is actually to draw attention to the disgusting working conditions caused by the rats. The union is calling for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to clean subway stations more regularly and fix holes in the walls and floors to help drive out the rodents. (Still) -
