Election 2012: Polling, Posturing, Posing and Press Releases:
JON HUNTSMAN picked up the endorsement of South Carolina's biggest newspaper, The State., in yesterday's Sunday edition but the NY Times reports that Huntsman will drop out of the race and endorse MITT ROMNEY.
The paper wrote in part, "Mr. Huntsman is a true conservative, with a record and platform of bold economic reform straight out of the free-market bible, but he’s a realist, whose goal is likewise to get things done.
The paper has that right: He's a realist. Huntsman probably needed a strong second-place finish in New Hampshire to have any hopes of gaining any traction, especially in a state as conservative as South Carolina. The third place finish just wasn't enough. And the paper's endorsement was an indication of the soaring expectation Huntsman had struggled to live up to --a reality-based candidate trying to appeal to the more extreme voters who dominate the primary process. Just wasn't gonna happen.
Huntsman will make an announcement today. (Maiman/Pacelli)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
Congrats to Miss Wisconsin, LAURA KAEPPELER, who was crowned Miss America Saturday night in Las Vegas. She's 23 years old and is from Kenosha, WI. She attended a private Lutheran liberal arts college in Kenosha, majoring in music and vocal performance, whish is why she sang an aria for her talent portion.
Miss Oklahoma, BETTY THOMPSON, was the first runner-up. Miss New York, KAITLIN MONTE, who introduced herself by saying she was there to "occupy the stage" was third, followed by Miss Arizona and Miss California.
The top 10 included Illinois, Florida, Texas, Louisiana and South Carolina.Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
Celebrity chef PAULA DEEN will be on the "Today Show" tomorrow (Tue) morning to address the story which first appeared in a story by the National Enquirer that she had type-2 diabetes.
This is a big story since Paula's cooking style unapologetically includes lots of high-fat content items like butter, bacon and sugar. Some of her recipes include:
--Bacon-Cheeseburger Meatloaf
--Deep-fried Mac & Cheese
--Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake
The Enquirer story was out two years ago, but recently became news again when it was rumored that Paula was being asked to become one of the spokespersons for the diabetes drug, Novartis.
Paula's son, BOBBY DEEN, also began his new show, "Not My Mother's Meals," earlier this month on the Cooking Channel, focusing on less caloric versions of some of his mother's dishes and his own concoctions.Bottom feeding:
There isn't much that can separate KIM KARDASHIAN from her hard-earned dough. Fox News reports the bootylicious brunette auctioned off a pair of Balenciaga heels, CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN pumps, HERVE LEGER dress and her robe from "Dancing With the Stars" on Ebay.com last week and the money was supposed to go a good cause. Too bad the Dream Foundation pocketed a mere 10% of the total and the charity made just $200. (Lee)
Fashion Emergency:
Collaborations are all the rage in fashion, but this one is a little weird. JEAN PAUL GAULTIER has partnered with Dillon Gage Metals to design... a bar of gold! Styleite.com says the one-ounce bullion bar is “a fashionable way for investors to diversify holdings and hedge against inflation.” Which doesn’t make a lot of sense, because the designer gold “carries a slight premium because of its unique design and limited mintage.” That includes rounded corners and an engraving of a striped, radiating heart with a “J-P-G” banner across it. The current plain old ordinary gold is selling a $1,640. So if you want designer gold, plan to tack on a couple hundred more bucks to the purchase price. (Bartha)
