This weekend's hot movies (Daily Variety):
Week two of "The Avengers" was as good as anybody else's outstanding week one, pulling down over a $100-million bucks at the box office. In fact, "The Avengers" is the first film in Hollywood history to make more than $100-million dollars in its second week, and in two weeks, the movie has almost exceeded the eight-week gross of "The Hunger Games" ($374 million vs $387 million), which shows you how strong this film is.
So far, worldwide, the film made it to the $1 billion mark on Sunday and will shortly pass the $1.12 billion earned by "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which --up until now-- has been the number four best-grossing film of all time.
JOHNNY DEPP's "Dark Shadows" was a distant second, but managed to do well, with $28.5 million.Grace notes:
Legendary bass player DONALD "DUCK" DUNN has died. He died in his sleep Sunday morning after performing two shows at a Tokyo nightclub. He was 70. Donald's bass can be heard on countless of hit records by OTIS REDDING, SAM & DAVE, WILLIAM BELL and just about every other artist on the Stax Records label. That's because he was a member of BOOKER T. & THE M.G.'s, the house band for Stax. Dunn went on to do sessions with hundreds of artists look for that classic Memphis sound. He was also part of the original Blues Brothers Band, and appeared in the movie. (Marino)
Health and Medical Briefs:
A diabetic Denver teen found out the hard way that insulin pumps should not go through airport full-body scanners.
According to MSNBC, 16-year-old SAVANNAH BARRY was on her way home from a school trip. At the airport, she showed an agent from the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) a doctor's note explaining her medical needs. She was told it was safe to go through the full-body scanner, but when Savannah told her mother what happened, her mom called the pump's manufacturer and was they instructed her that the girl would have to remove the now-defective pump as soon as she landed in Denver.
Animas --the company that makes the ten-thousand-dollar pump-- says the x-rays used in the airport scanners can damage the software that regulates insulin delivery in pumps. The teen diabetic is now calling on the TSA to educate its agents about how to handle diabetic passengers in the future. (Page)Gossip Central:

Those @$#%* Foreigners:
Europe's hottest property market right now? London, where a bunch of very rich French folks are looking to move after France elected Socialist FRANCOIS HOLLANDE earlier this month. His proposed a top income tax rate of 75-percent on incomes of 1-million-euros or more has many companies operating in France telling their top-paid employees to relocate across the English Channel.
