Hot punks in the Summertime:
The flesh-eating zombie outbreak continues in Florida.
CNews is reporting that a naked Florida man ambushed a homeowner in St Augustine. Police were called at around four in the morning after 22-year-old JEREMIAH HAUGHEE allegedly started destroying lawn furniture in somebody's yard. Cops say he then climbed on a roof and jumped on the hood of a truck. Two residents at the house woke up to investigate. But, Haughee allegedly tackled them and bit one of them in the stomach.
It took five officers and several Taser hits to subdue the man. Haughee is charged with five counts of battery, burglary and criminal mischief.
Police said there was no indication Haughee was on drugs. (Still)Fashion Emergency:
Teen activists are planning a big protest outside the offices of Teen Vogue on Times Square today. It's all part of an online campaign to get the magazine to stop digitally airbrushing its models. A petition was created at Change.org over the weekend by New York City teens EMMA STYDAHAR and CARINA CRUZ. As of yesterday afternoon, the petition already had more than 26-thousand signatures.
Buzzfeed.com says the Teen Vogue petition got more than 10-thousand signatures just over the last four days. The Teen Vogue protest comes right on the heels of a similar campaign against Seventeen magazine. Maine teenager JULIA BLUHM blazed that trail. Last week, in response to Julia's petition and protest, Seventeen announced its August issue would include a "Body Peace Treaty" that pledges to stop the Photoshop. Julia, Emma and Carina all blog for Sparksummit.com.
Emma and Carina will deliver a box of signatures to Teen Vogue executives and stage a "mock fashion shoot."
Teen Vogue has not responded to the teens directly regarding their campaign. But they issued a statement that says they "shoot dozens of non-models and readers every year and do not retouch them to alter their body size. Teen Vogue pledges to continue this practice." (Bartha)Gossip Central:
BEN AFFLECK is causing quite a ruckus at home. According to Star magazine, the actor has given a part in "The Stand," the movie that he's directing, to his ex, JENNIFER LOPEZ, even though his wife, JENNIFER GARNER, has been begging him for a role. (Myers)
Is there trouble in paradise for ROBERT PATTINSON and KRISTIN STEWART? According to Star magazine, the couple hardly sees each other and is more and more distant.
Meanwhile, In Touch magazine reports that they are on the verge of an engagement and are already talking rings, marriage and kids! (Myers)The Banksters:
Pity party for BOB DIAMOND. The newly-resigned CEO for Barclay's Bank in London has bravely agreed to forgo his very substantial bonus of $31 million, but he'll still collect a year's salary of about £2 million, or $3.1 million.
Diamond, who left the bank due to his role in rigging international interest rates, will have to make due somehow.
Barclay's Chairman MARCUS AGIUS, who also resigned, presented this little piece of news like an offering as he testified before the British Parliament this week (they weren't very sympathetic).
Diamond, a U-S-born CEO of the London-based bank, stepped down along with Agius earlier this month after it was revealed that Barclay's artificially and purposefully lowered estimates of interest rates that make up the London interbank offered rate (LIBOR).
Naturally, newspapers just couldn't resist making "Diamond in the Rough" puns. (Maiman)Top talkables of the day:
San Diego's annual Comic-Con 2012 celebration hasn't even begun and already one person is dead.
A 53-year-old "Twilight" fan was hit by a car outside San Diego's Convention Center as she was crossing the street to get in line (already!) for Thursday's "Breaking Dawn Part 2" panel discussion.
Police say the woman, named GISELA, was taken by paramedics to the hospital, but was dead on arrival.
The annual Comic-Con, the world's largest convention of comic book and sci-fi and fantasy fans, officially opens on Thursday.Idiots or Insane:
With all the controversy lately surrounding pictures of moms breast feeding their kids, South Korea decided to get in on the mix.
Weird Asia News says a new Korean advertising billboard (picture) shows a baby drinking milk straight from its mama while holding an Oreo cookie. The ad aims to put a new perspective on the whole 'cookies and milk' thing. The billboard is receiving mixed reviews. (Still) -
