Guilty Pleasures:
No winner in Wednesday night's drawing for the Powerball Lottery. That means Saturday night's drawing is valued at $100 million ($64.2 million cash value). Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, DC and the U-S Virgin Islands. Chances of winning the grand prize (all five numbers plus the powerball) are 1 in 175.2 million.
Trash talk and satellite dish:
Forbes magazine has released its annual list of Top-Earning Dead Celebrities, and ELIZABETH TAYLOR has pushed MICHAEL JACKSON from the top spot after two years.
Liz beat out Michael's earnings by more than $50 million dollars, padded by a one-time auction that brought in an astronomical $184 million to Liz's estate. And let's not forget the rights to that upcoming LINDSAY LOHAN movie about La Liz, either.
ELVIS PRESLEY was number three on the list, followed by "Peanuts" creator CHARLES SCHULTZ. The top-10:
10. Steve McQueen, $8 million,
9. Theodor "Dr Suess" Geisel, $9 million,
7. (tie) Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein, $10 million,
6. John Lennon, $12 million,
5. Bob Marley, $17 million,
4. Charles Schultz, $37 million
3. Elvis Presley, $55 million
2. Michael Jackson, $145 million
1. Elizabeth Taylor, 210 millionDrug Bust of the Day:
Today's nominee for Surprised Drug Felon of the Week is JEREMIAH FAZZIO of Trinity County, California, whose vehicle was stopped by police after he made an unsafe lane change. The cop was suspicious and got his partner out of the patrol car, a K-9 drug-sniffin' doggie. They found over 100 pounds of pot in the trunk.
Fazzio claimed he'd never seen the pot before and didn't know where it came from. Not that it stopped cops from arresting him. He's now out on bail awaiting an arraignment. (Maiman)Grace notes:
Flora, fauna and Gaga. The brain trust in the biology department at Duke University has named 19 species of fern after LADY GAGA. Why? Because of her (quote), "fervent defense of equality and individual expression." The 19 include a species called "Gaga monstraparva," which basically means "little monster," and "Gaga germanotta," for the singer's last name. And, get this science geeks... part of the ferns' DNA sequence spells out GAGA. (Marino)
Idiots or Insane:
Warning: note disgusting content:
Gross! Cupcakes designed to look like the symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases have gone on sale at a London bakery.
They're being called the "clapcake," made from vanilla or chocolate sponge with "anatomically correct" icing that includes lesions, boils, fever blisters and warts --all the lovely signs of things like gonorrhea, herpes and syphilis. (pics)
The whole point: To send out the message to practice safe sex.
Editor's note: One look at that and I'm reminded not to eat cupcakes. (Maiman)Battle of the Sexes:
The long-held belief that women are better than men at multi-tasking might be inaccurate.
According to the Local, Swedish research shows that, on average, men are actually better at juggling tasks than women.
But, scientists say a woman's ability to multi-task is also dependent on where she is in her menstrual cycle. TIMO MANTYLA, a psychology professor at Stockholm University, said, "The results showed a clear difference in multi-tasking between men and women in the ovulation phase".
Basically, women have a tougher time multitasking during ovulation. (Still) -
