Models:
Did you know that most of the world's top-earning models are Victoria's Secret models? Six of the 10 women named to Forbes2012 top-earners list a couple months ago were current or former "Angels" for the lingerie retailer. That includes top model GISELE BUNDCHEN, who earned $45 million between 2011 and 2012. MIRANDA KERR, DOUTZEN KROUES and ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO are all top earners who are also Victoria's Secret models.
Women's Wear Daily says being a Victoria's Secret Angel "significantly increases a model's earning potential due to their visibility around the world... It changes the girls' careers completely." (Bartha)Men in Uniform (Royalty Report):
What do monarchs do when they get too old to stay on one throne and can't keep off the other one? They retire!
So it is with QUEEN BEATRIX of the Netherlands, who turns 75 this week and announced yesterday that she'll be stepping down --or in royal terms, abdicating-- on April 30th.
Her son, Prince WILLEM-ALEXANDER, who's 45, will be stepping up to the big gig and assuming the throne. The big, plush one.
Editor's note: That sound you hear in the background is PRINCE CHARLES repeatedly hitting his head against the wall in his shower. And for you girls who always wanted a prince, you're outta luck: he's married already and has three kids. (Kaye)Bottom feeding:
HULK HOGAN is a little too proud of his beautiful daughter, BROOKE. PerezHilton.com reports the wrestler "tweeted" a photo of his 24-year-old daughter's legs the other day and the move didn't go over too well. Apparently his followers posted hundreds of negative comments and he immediately took down the provocative pic. (Lee)
Today's police blotter:
A gun buy back program in Seattle seems to be working a little too well.
The NY Post says someone turned in a full-sized missile launcher to police. The good news is the missile was not capable of being fired. The bad news is police say the reason it couldn't be fired is because someone had already launched it.
Cops are now trying to figure out the origin of the heavy weaponry. The person who turned it in claimed to have purchased it on the street for $100-dollars. (Still)Grace notes:
The Super Bowl is this Sunday, but the halftime show might not be what you were expecting. BEYONCE will still be performing, but the DESTINY'S CHILD reunion may have been canceled... or, was never supposed to happen in the first place. Group member MICHELLE WILLIAMS told WRUG Media Group that the reunion is just a rumour and she'll be in the touring company of the musical "Fela!" in Washington, DC, that night. Michelle said (quote), "I hate to disappoint the people and tell them it's not true." This is a real shocker since it's been everywhere that Destiny's Child will reunite during the halftime show and do a medley of their hits as well as their new single, "Nuclear." Yesterday, the website for "Fela!" says Michelle will be missing a few upcoming performances, so, maybe she'll be in New Orleans on Sunday after all. (Marino)
Another obvious study:
A new study from England's University of Portsmouth shows women who wear high heels --despite the pain and irritation-- really do look more attractive.
The researchers filmed a group of women in their 20s as they walked on a treadmill, both in flats and high heels, then showed the films --with the women's faces and upper torsos obscured-- to another group of men and women who were asked to rate them on a scale of attractiveness.
Each one of the women --who owned between four and 25 pair of heels-- were rated as more attractive when they were wearing heels than when they wore flats.
The researchers concluded that the women looked more feminine in heels, as they made them take shorter strides and swing their hips more. -
