Overnight Briefing & General Reality Check - Jan 31, 2013

The surfing world is buzzing over reports that Hawaiian GARRETT McNAMARA got the holy grail of the sport --a 100-foot wave.
Surfer Today has an image of McNamara riding the behemoth of the coast of Portugal. Surf experts say it looks like a 100-footer, but it will be a while before the folks at Guinness weigh in. At the very least, it looks like McNamara has broken his own world record of 78 feet, from 2011. You can see video of that ride here. (Maiman)
Asleep at the switch:
What's worse than someone's car alarm blaring all day? How about this ...
The NY Post says residents of Suffolk, Virginia, had to endure the sound of a freight train's air horn for hours. The train's horn started malfunctioning at about dinner time, causing distress to thousands of families within earshot. It was so loud, it could be heard across most of the city. (Still)
The Reel Deal:
That documentary on SNOOP DOGG --or perhaps we should say "Dogg-umentary"-- called "Reincarnated"-- is being rolled out beginning Mar 15.
The film, which traces Snoop's life, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September, and Daily Variety says it centers on a month-long trip to Jamaica that Snoop Dogg made as "a journey of reincarnation of self" after coming to the island to leave rap behind and record a reggae album.
The film will only be out in six cities so far --New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami.
And no surprise to find out, as Variety says, that "'Reincarnated' surely sets a new record for the amount of weed smoked on camera in a documentary."
KIM KARDASHIAN says she doesn't think second-hand clothes "are going to work" for her baby with KANYE WEST. She told JIMMY KIMMEL on his show Tuesday night that she didn't think hand-me-downs would work because "if anyone knows Kanye, they just know how into fashion he is and I think he's going to have things, like, specially made." Gay... and married:
Here's a shocker --JIM NABORS from "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." isn't interested in the fairer sex! He married his longtime love, STAN CADWALLADER, at the Fairmount Olympic Hotel in Seattle back on January 15th. He's 82; Stan's in his 60s and a retired firefighter. The two have lived together in Hawaii a whopping 38 years and the gregarious actor feels "very blessed... very happy... and I'm not ashamed of people knowing." Friends and colleagues knew about Nabors' sexuality during his years in Hollywood, but this is the first time he's acknowledged it in the media. (Lee)
