Anniversaries:
45 years ago, the musical "Hair" opened on Broadway, (1968).
--America's worst commercial nuclear accident occurred inside the Unit Two reactor at the Three Mile Island plant near Middletown, PA, 1979.Fashion Emergency:
KIM KARDASHIAN is going on the offensive after getting slammed over her questionable maternity clothing choices. She wrote on her blog: "I feel my best when I am in heels and chic clothes! "Happy mommy, happy baby!" Kim is five months along with her first baby with KANYE WEST. Despite the criticism, Kim is making many of the same maternity wardrobe adjustments most women face. Kim left her stilettos at home for the first time this week. Us Weekly spotted her wearing flats on Monday.
Editor's note /phone starter: Kim is essentially dressing the way she always has, just while pregnant. Meanwhile, DUCHESS KATE MIDDLETON, who is taller, and much less curvy than Kim, is also dressing the way she always has. But no one is jumping all over her (yet). Do you think you always look better to others when you're feeling your best, no matter what you wear? And do those rules change when you're pregnant? Or just when you're a curvy girl? (Bartha)Losers in Lockup:
A woman in Athens, Georgia, came home Sunday afternoon to find a stranger sitting in her living room using her laptop computer! The young blonde apologized, grabbed her things and ran, but left her Facebook page open on the woman's computer screen.
Athens-Clarke police easily ID'd her from it as an 18-year-old University of Georgia student who was also caught in the act of chatting with someone online, even providing the address of the house she'd broken into, perhaps for a rendez-vous? A phone number was also listed on the Facebook profile; unsurprisingly no one picked up when cops called.
But the story gets even weirder, according to the Athens Banner Herald ...because Goldilocks wet the couch she was sitting on after breaking-and-Facebooking. (Kaye)Stars and their movies:
Oscar winner ANNE HATHAWAY has signed to star in the upcoming independant movie, "Laggies."
Deadline.com reports she'll play a 28-year-old woman who gets a proposal and then "pretends to go on a retreat but actually ends up spending a week with new friends, all of whom are in high school." CHLOE MORETZ will reportedly play one of the friends, and SAM ROCKWELL will also star in the film.JAMES HOLMES, that guy who's accused of killing 12 people and wounding another 70 in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," is reportedly willing to plead guilty to escape the death penalty.
The Denver Post says if that's the case, the whole thing could be wrapped up Monday, if the plea bargain is accepted. That would put James in jail and behind bars for the rest of his life.Health and Medical Briefs:
Even if they don't feel lonely, social isolation is associated with a higher risk of death in older people.
According to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, both social isolation and feeling lonely were associated with a higher chance of death. But after adjusting for factors like underlying health conditions, only social isolation remained important.
The study's author explains that social connections provide emotional support --which is important-- but they also offer things like advice, reminders to the elderly to take their medication and provide support in helping them to do things. In those practical aspects, it's very important for older people to have social contacts. People in those situations don't always look after themselves as well as they need. The study also shows that being lonely and isolated isn't only sad; it's a health risk. (Page) -
