--There was also no winner in Saturday night's drawing for the Powerball Lottery. That means Wednesday night's drawing is valued at $350 million ($222.8 million cash value). It'll be the third biggest Powerball jackpot ever if somebody wins. Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, DC and the U-S Virgin Islands. Chances of winning the grand prize (all five numbers plus the powerball) are 1 in 175.2 million.
--Also, no winner in Friday night's drawing for the Mega Millions Lottery. That means Tuesday night's drawing is valued at $170 million ($126 million cash value). Mega Millions is played in 42 states and Washington DC. Chances of winning the big prize are 1 in 175.7 million.
Big Money, Big Problems:
The Postal Service is considering another rate hike.
Officials say they're "loathe to pursue this approach" but the agency has been backed into a corner by Congress' refusal to allow it to stop Saturday mail delivery and a 2006 law requiring it to prefund health care benefits for future retirees.
First class stamps rose to 46 cents in January.
The agency lost $1.9 billion last quarter, despite massive cost-cutting moves --the service now has fewer career employees than at any time since 1966-- and a 9.3 percent jump in package delivery revenue over Q1 of 2012. Of course, actual letter volume continues to drop as email replaces it. (Maiman)
With MILEY CYRUS' tweet last week revealing her to be on top of the annual Maxim magazine Hot 100 list, there's not a lot of surprise for this year's list, except for #69, MANTI TE'O's fake girlfriend! The rest of the top-10, released over the weekend:
10. Elisha Cuthbert
9. Vanessa Hudgens
8. Kate Upton
7. Ashley Tisdale
6. Jennifer Love Hewitt
5. Jennifer Lawrence
4. Mila Kunis (also topping FHM mag's hot 100)
2. Selena Gomex
1. Miley Cyrus.
FYI: KATY PERRY just missed the top-10 at #11; BEYONCE was #14; DEMI LOVATO (26); SHAKIRA (53). Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend beat out KATHERINE McPHEE (73), KE$HA (78) and KELLIE PICKLER (96), among others.
THE ROLLING STONES continued their parade of special guests joining them onstage. The crowd at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas Saturday night got to see KATY PERRY duet with MICK JAGGER on "Beast of Burden." It wasn't really a surprise because a few hours before the show, The Stones sent out a Tweet that Katy would be there. Katy Tweeted afterwards (quote), "Yes, I just did gyrated on Mick Jagger. WHAT?!"
FYI: For the encore of "You Can't Always Get What You Want," the Stones hired the Green Valley High School choir from Henderson, Nevada. (Marino)
BEYONCE's crazy concert rider from Star magazine:
--all crew members must wear 100% cotton clothing
--hand carved ice balls must be available after her show to soothe her throat
--bathrooms must have new toilet seats and red toilet paper (Myers)
Hook-up website's biggest day ...is today!
Hey guys --hope you spoiled the little lady rotten on Mother's Day or you could be in for a very big surprise! HowAboutWe.com reports today is the most popular day of the year for females to sign up at Ashley Madison --a dating website geared for people that want to begin an affair! The company claims they had a 439-percent spike in membership last year and --presumably-- hopes to attract the same number of bitter, unhappy, window-shopping women. (Lee)
