Health and Medical Briefs:
It might not seem like such a big deal when you don't take your medicine, but when you add up all the people in the U-S who feel the way you do, the results are staggering. Forbes reports America could save almost $20 billion dollars if patients would take the medicines they need and if doctors would prescribe generics.
CVS Caremark did the figuring and found $13.4 billion dollars would be saved if patients taking expensive medications like Crestor or Nexium switched to the generic forms. Another $6.5 billion could be saved if patients would pick up their meds from the pharmacy just 80-percent of the time. (Page)What's the Buzz:
The Friedrich Aquarium at the San Antonio Zoo welcomed four new turtles last week, but one of them was definitely not like the others.
Among the tiny Texas river cooters was a two-headed hatchlings. Naturally, zoo staffers named it Thelma and Louise.
Zoo officials say the two-faced female is completely healthy and can walk and swim alongside her single-headed brethren no problem. Nor do officials anticipate any future complications. (Here's a video of the little bugger, or buggers.)
The San Antonio Zoo was previously home to a two-headed Texas rat snake named Janus who passed away in 1995.
Editor's note: Thelma and Louise? No, SHELLMA and Louise. Good GOD, do I have to do everything around here? (And that's definitely a hardtop, not a convertible. --Maiman)Like you really care:
JAMES WOODS may want to find a new young honey --the one he's got is in a heap of trouble! The aging actor took his girlfriend, KRISTEN BAUGUESS, to the premiere of "White House Down" last Tuesday --just two-and-a-half weeks after she racked up a number of charges! RadarOnline.com reports young Kristen was popped in Chatham County, Georgia, for speeding, failure to register an automobile, switching license tags to misrepresent and two felonies --possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. If you're keeping track at home, the star is a whopping 46-years older than his ladyfriend. (Lee)
On, off and way off-Broadway:
Former "American Idol" runner-up JUSTIN GUARINI is coming back to Broadway. He'll be playing Paris in the upcoming interracial production of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," with ORLANDO BLOOM and Tony Award nominee CONDOLA RASHAD in the title roles (in case you were wondering, Condola is PHYLICIA and AHMAD RASHAD's daughter). CHRISTIAN CAMARGO (from "The Hurt Locker," "Twilight," All My Sons) will play Mercutio in the show.
Too Cool for school:
A lady in Mexico has finally graduated from elementary school --at the age of 100.
When she was a little girl, MANUELA HERNANDEZ dropped out of school to help her family with chores. She went back to school last October at the age of 99 at the recommendation of one of her grandchildren. Now that she has her elementary school certificate, Manuela plans to work toward a high school diploma. (Still)Grace notes:
There may be more material released from the album sessions for KANYE WEST's "Yeezus." Producer RICK RUBIN was brought in at the last minute to tidy things up, and he told the Daily Beast that originally Kanye wanted to put 16 songs on the album, but Rick convinced him to pick 10, then put out the rest of the tunes later on. Don't count on this happening. Kanye is notorious for stockpiling songs and never releasing them. (Marino)
