Shopping Around:
Kitchen multitasking can leave many cooks preparing for a big gathering a bit shorthanded. How else to explain why anyone would shell out $228 for a pot that stirs itself? Actually, all it does is boil water faster.
A Japanese dentist designed the Kurukurunabe pot that comes with a notched insert that swirls water in a circular motion that brings it to a bubbling boil more quickly than leaving it well alone. (The rough translation for Kurukurunabe is "pot round and round" --Kaye)Trash talk and satellite dish:
LINDSAY LOHAN didn't win the "Miss Congeniality" award in rehab. As we told 'ya last week, (RBR 8.7.13) CHAKA KHAN left the Cliffside Malibu recovery center because of Lilo's behavior and she wasn't alone! RadarOnline.com reports the hot mess also ticked off five other women and one man, who ditched out of treatment early because she was just too distracting, bratty and "entitled." (Lee)
Good news for SIMON COWELL --one of the side effects of his baby mama, LAUREN SILVERMAN, settling her divorce with her husband, means that Simon will not have to testify in court about the whole, sordid affair.
As one of Lauren's lawyers put it: "The matter has been resolved and the parties have moved on."
As we mentioned yesterday, Simon has picked up a mansion in LA and had just looked at an apartment in NYC which runs $20 grand a month. But don't worry about Simon having to cough up too much money for his mistress --as you remember, Forbes magazine said he makes $95 million a year from his various network shows and projects.Grace notes:
CHRIS BROWN beat that hit-and-run charge. The Los Angeles Times says Chris exchanged insurance info with the other driver so the judge dropped the misdemeanor charge. The prosecutor wanted the charges to stick because Chris was still on probation when the accident happened. And, the other driver claimed on various social media that Chris called her a "bitch." Chocolate, Caffeine, Alcohol:
Coffee may not stunt your growth, but if you're a young person drinking coffee, be careful.
New research shows that people under fifty-five who drink more than four cups of coffee a day are more likely to die young. Of course, many people are skeptical that a bit of Starbucks can kill you, and the study's co-author, Dr. CARL LAVIE of the John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute in New Orleans says "Small amounts of coffee, up to twenty-eight cups a week, seem to be safe." But most people ought to stay below four, eight-ounce cups per day, especially younger people.
The study itself tracked 44-thousand people between 1971 and 2002. During that period, 2,512 people died from all sorts of different things. However, the study found that people who drank more than twenty-eight cups of coffee per week were twenty-one percent more likely to die. Unfortunately, as of yet, no one knows why. Previous research also states that coffee generally contributes to people living longer. (AB)Elvis Extra:
36 years ago today, we heard the news that ELVIS PRESLEY was dead. The King was about to go on yet another tour the next day. In the middle of the night, he got up to use the bathroom, had a heart attack and died. Elvis was just 42 years old. Last night, thousands of fans gathered outside Graceland in Memphis for the annual candlelight vigil. That's part of Elvis Week where folks from all over the world come to Memphis to pay their respects. (Marino)
