Overnight Briefing & General Reality Check - Jan 13, 2014

Off the beaten path:
A teenage couple who both switched gender have disappointed their online fans by breaking up.
19-year-old KATIE HILL used to be named LUKE before her surgery. She met 17-year-old ARIN ANDREWS --formerly known as EMERALD-- when they were both transitioning between sexes. The couple bonded partially because their fight for gender recognition was difficult because they both lived in small conservative towns in Oklahoma. Katie says, "we're at a point in our lives where things are happening and it's harder to spend time together." The pair promised to stay friends. (Still)
New information discovered on that crazy cat lady who lives down the block: cats see her as just a giant, hairless cat.
No, it's actually true: biologist Dr. JOHN BRADSHAW of the University of Bristol, has made a study of felines, and found that when cats are affectionate to their owners, they're just treating them like other cats. Explains a lot about why they like to wind their way around your legs and get startled when you trip, thereby showing you are not, in fact, a cat. Bradshaw also found that when cats drop dead animals at doorsteps, they aren't leaving presents for their giant hairless friends. Instead, cats apparently remember upon entering the house that they prefer tinned food.
Editor's note: And we still have to clean up that dead mouse later. Or bird. Or... y'know, let's get off this topic. (AB)
Lawsuit of the day:
In Portland, OR, a 26-year-old pimp is suing Nike for $100 million, claiming Nike should have placed a warning note in their sneakers that they could be used as a dangerous weapon.
The Portland Oregonian reports the pimp, SIRGIORGIRO CLARDY, was wearing a pair of Air Jordans when he repeatedly stomped a john trying to leave a Portland hotel without paying one of Clardy's prostitutes, whom he beat as well.
The man in question had to have stitches and plastic surgery on his nose; for his part in the beatings, Clardy got a 100-year prison sentence.
Now, he's appealing the sentence claiming that the sneaker company should have warned people that the shoes could be used as a weapon to cause serious injury or death: "...these defendants named in this Tort claim failed to warn of risk or to provide an adequate warning or instruction [and] it has caused personal injury in the likes of mental suffering" his suit says.
KATE MOSS' 16-year-old half-sister is following in Kate's footsteps. LOTTIE MOSS has officially signed with Storm Model Management. The Huffington Post reports that even though Lottie is officially a model now, she's still in "full time education and concentrating on her exams." Back in 2011, Lottie garnered a lot of buzz in the modeling industry after being photographed as a bridesmaid in Kate's wedding. (Bartha)
Popped by the cops:
C'mon get sloppy! DAVID CASSIDY got busted for drunk driving, AGAIN! TMZ says he was arrested Friday night in Los Angeles after cops pulled him over for making an illegal right turn coming off the 405 freeway. David reeked of alcohol and failed the field sobriety test. He blew .19, which is more than twice the legal limit. David was booked and released a few hours later. He was arrested for drunk driving last year in New York, and in Florida back in 2010. He's out on $15-thousand dollars bail, but this time when he goes to court, because of the prior convictions, he'll probably wind up behind bars for a while. In the meantime, David's manager, JO-ANNE GEFFEN, told "Entertainment Tonight" David will return to rehab at an undisclosed facility. (Marino)
