Valentine's Day:
It's the latest annoying holiday push for the lovelorn, the unhappily-married and the cretinous holiday-hater: Pre-Valentine's Day.
Today, Feb 13, seems to be the most-cited date for a "Pre-Valentine's Day" dinner, but this entire week has been fair game for "Pre-Valentine's Day" events at restaurants, boutiques and hotels from California to London to Hong Kong.
Proponents say going out to eat on pre-Valentine's Day carries all the romance of the actual day, but in a more sophisticated, relaxed way because you avoid the crowds and waiting times associated with that day.
Editor's note: Yeah? How much more relaxing is it gonna be on my wallet? (Maiman)Madison Avenue may want you to believe that Valentine's Day is a big deal, but most of us couldn't care less! A new survey by VoucherCloud.net discovered that just 19 percent of couples will celebrate the day of love for a variety of reasons. Over half say the cost is prohibitive, 31 percent don't "believe" in the holiday, 29 percent have been with their significant other entirely "too long" to celebrate and a few poor souls are fighting with their beloved. Money Talks:
Comcast is buying Time Warner Cable for about $159 a share in an all-stock deal that will combine the two largest cable companies in America into one big, terrible cable company.
Comcast has around 23 million subscribers, Time Warner has closer to 12 million. The deal --reportedly worth $45 billion dollars-- is set to be announced this morning.
Editor's note: Between the hours of 8 am and 12 pm. So 3 pm. (Maiman)Stars and their movies:
Looks like that TUPUC SHAKUR biography is back on, and the Hollywood Reporter says JOHN SINGLETON, who directed him in "Poetic Justice" with JANET JACKSON, will rewrite, direct and produce the film about the late rapper and actor.
The film has been off and on for the past couple of years, but the question now becomes --who will play Tupac in the film? ANTHONY MACKIE played him in the 2009 film, "Notorious," about rival rapper NOTORIOUS BIG. Tupac's mom, AFENI SHAKUR, is still locked in as executive producer on the movie.Animal Stories:
Scientists Down Under have discovered a brand new species of giant jellyfish.
The five-foot creature was discovered in Tasmania. It doesn't have an official name yet, but it's being affectionately referred to as the Snot Jellyfish because of its slimy texture. The unclassified jelly is related to the lion's mane jellyfish, the largest jelly species in the world. One researcher says, "It's not really jellyfish territory here and all we could do was stand back and admire it." Scientists think they now have enough samples and photos of the creature to give it a real name soon. (Still) -
