Set yer clocks AHEAD an hour:
Couple of facts about DST: It's Saving Time, not Savings Time. Nevertheless, many people feel the word savings (with an 's') flows better, and "Daylight Savings Time" is also in common usage, and can be found in dictionaries. In the European Union, everybody sets their clocks ahead a couple of weeks from now on Mar 30. This can be a real pain if you're traveling, by the way, and get caught in between. Happened to me one year.
Setting your clocks:
There's a few sites which you can depend on for accurate time, if you're one of those anal types who must have it correct to the second:
--The US Naval Observatory.
--US Clock Website (www.time.gov)
--World Clock
--FYI: World Clock also has a list of countries which do not turn their clocks back HERE.Daylight Saving trivia:
Bet you didn't know that the Sunday after we move the clocks forward is one of the worst for church attendance. It's toughest on families with small children but church leaders tell ABC News attendance is down about 10-15 percent on average.
Some folks show late so some churches begin services a half hour later; others send e-mail reminders to the congregation; still others provide coffee and donuts; and each church seems to have a handful of folks who showed up an hour late not realizing the clocks had changed at all.Thinking ahead?
We set the clocks back the first weekend of November --Sun, Nov 02, to be exact.
Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
MATT LeBLANC needs to go ring shopping --stat. Sources tell the National Enquirer that his longtime girlfriend, ANDREA ANDERS, is tired of waiting around for a proposal after eight years of togetherness. Word is she's ready to settle down and start a family but feels like a distant third compared to his ten-year-old daughter, MARINA, and Showtime comedy, "Episodes."
Phone starter: Do you think a guy is really serious if he waits eight years to pop the question? Should she jump ship and find someone that shares her hopes and dreams, or stay in a relationship that obviously works? (Lee)Fashion Emergency:
If you want to be a properly trendy hipster, you better go out and find yourself a monocle. Yes, a monocle. The New York Times says the fashion accessory favored by Colonel Klink, "Batman" villain The Penguin, "James Bond" villain Ernst Blofeld (and his "Austin Powers" counterpart, Doctor Evil) is the new hot choice in eyewear. Their evidence:
--Actor ALAN CUMMING had his picture taken wearing a purple-tinted monocle in a small fashion and art magazine called Spirit and Flesh.
--Aspiring Miami-based rapper JOSE VEGA wears one on his website picture because, in his words: "I got it just to have my own style, bring something new to the table. Also, I'm nearsighted."
--Super-hip eyewear brand Warby Parker is selling a monocle called the "Colonel." (Named after Colonel Mustard from "Clue," and not the "beloved" Nazi prison camp Kommandant from "Hogan's Heroes," forever shaking his fist in frustration and yelling "Schuuuuuultz!")
--Nearsights.com, based in San Francisco, says their sales nearly tripled in the last year, from $26-thousand in 2012 to $66-thousand today.
--A British eyewear seller in business since 1963 says his online store TheMonocleShop.com has seen sales double over the last five years.Setting a good example:
Apparently even criminals love Girl Scout Cookies.
Police in Rancho Cucamonga, California, say a pair of crooks bought Girl Scout cookies using counterfeit money. A pair of high school girls were selling the cookies in front of a store when a man and a woman gave them two $50 dollar bills for several boxes of treats. The girls found out the money was fake when they tried to break the bills inside the store. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department has since held classes for Girl Scout troops on how to spot fake cash. (Still) -
