Today also marks the date of Paul Revere's famous "Midnight Ride," 1775. Paul DID start that famous ride; he just didn't finish it. He began on Monday evening, the 17th, at 10 pm but was arrested by the British 90 minutes later. Didn't even make it to midnight.
It was WILLIAM DAWES and SAM PRESCOTT, taking other routes, who carried out his mission --fact one-- but --fact two-- that mission wasn't the one we all remember as described in the famous HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW poem ("Listen my children and you shall hear, the midnight ride of Paul Revere...")Equal time:
The NY Times reports that former NYC Mayor MICHAEL BLOOMBERG plans to spend about $50-million-dollars of his own cash on building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence. He hopes to counter the political clout of the National Rifle Association.
When asked about the NRA, Bloomberg said, "They say, 'We don't care. We're going to go after you' ...'If you don't vote with us we're going to go after your kids and your grandkids and your great-grandkids. And we're never going to stop'."Reaction? There's been no official comment from the NRA. But Gun Owners of American Director LARRY PRATT told the Times, "He's got the money to waste... So I guess he's free to do so. But frankly, I think he's going to find out why his side keeps losing."
Editor's note: Pratt has a point. When the average person hears "gun violence," they naturally assume that has to do with gun crime, particularly in the inner cities, usually committed by repeat offenders. Let's see if Bloomberg's efforts focus on crooks, gun runners and gang members instead of honest, law-abiding gun owners. (Pacelli)Trash talk and satellite dish:
TAYLOR SWIFT is on the hunt for Mr. Right and won't be settling for anyone's sloppy seconds. Sources tell HollywoodLife.com the unlucky-in-love super star has compiled a long list of "must have's" for her next boyfriend. Apparently the dude will need "leading man" good looks, be ambitious when it comes to his career, speak two languages, have a sister and a close relationship with his parents, but not be a mama's boy! (Lee)
TOM CRUISE might be hiding a secret. According to Star magazine, the actor has been laying low because he's been getting plastic surgery. (Myers)
Grace notes:
The real reason MILEY CYRUS is in the hospital has nothing to do with her being depressed about her dead dog, or a sore throat. TMZ says Miley came down with a sinus infection last week in North Carolina and a doctor prescribed the antibiotic Keflex. Miley's throat swelled up so badly she couldn't speak and had trouble breathing. Turns out she had an allergic reaction to the Keflex and since she had never taken the drug before, she had no idea she was allergic. Miley is still in the hospital and doctors say she could be there for up to 27 days. So, expect many more concerts on her "Bangerz" tour to be postponed.
FYI: Keflex is usually what you're given if you're allergic to penicillin. If Miley is allergic to penicillin and Keflex, she could be down for the count for a while. (Marino) -
