Another obvious study:
Good news for all of the eldest children out there: A new study appears to show that if you're the firstborn child in your family and female, you are statistically more likely to be the most ambitious and well-qualified of your whole clan.
As for the magic number between ages for kids, the study found that leaving a gap of at least four years between each child leads to greater chances of high-achieving tykes --and the wider the gap, the better. (Maiman)A new study says luxury shoppers spend more money when the sales staff treats them to a little emotional abuse. The new research, called "Should the Devil Sell Prada?" comes from the University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business. It reveals that when given the cold shoulder or snobby treatment while shopping, customers respond like high-school students who just want to be liked. They had an increased desire to spend more money. New York magazine's The Cut says the researchers attributed that to a desire to belong. (Bartha)
Chic Sh*t:
PHARRELL WILLIAMS has revealed the three questions he asks himself before getting dressed in the morning. The singer told InStyle magazine that he doesn't wear things like his giant Vivienne Westwood hat because he's looking for attention. He said: "I'm doing it because there's something on the inside that said to me:
--"(a) How do I feel this morning?
--"(b) Where the hell am I headed?
--"And, (c) What's the climate going to be like?" (Bartha)Broadcast, cable and video news:
CEDRIC The Entertainer announced yesterday he was leaving the syndicated game show, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" after just one season as a host. The reason --his busy schedule with all the TV and movie gigs ahead.
And Deadline reports "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-star TERRY CREWS is likely the new host of the show, though the deal has not been finalized.Grace notes:
Do you love KANYE WEST enough to buy a three hour album of just him talking? The Vibe says that's what Kanye's next project will be: a vinyl-only box set of his spoken views on the environment, his fiancee KIM KARDASHIAN, their baby NORTH, and just life in general. Kanye said he wants to win the Grammy for Best Spoken Word performance. His ultimate goal is to have 24 hours of his speech recordings streaming around the clock. (Marino)
On, off and way-off Broadway:
Broadway can be a rough place. 86-year-old ESTELLE PARSONS landed her first Tony nomination this week for her lead role in the play, "The Velocity Of Autumn." Playbill.com says it's closing on Sunday after 22 previews and 16 regular performances.
In happier Broadway news, the Tony-nominated musical revue, "After Midnight," will have some major talent taking over the "guest star" role. Beginning in June, PATTI LaBELLE, GLADYS KNIGHT and, in her Broadway debut, NATALIE COLE are all set to be in the show. (Marino) -
