Small town, small people:
A North Dakota elementary school is nixing a class performance of the Village People song "YMCA."
First graders at Bennett Elementary School in Fargo planned to dress up like members of the 1970s group. The problem? One of the students would have been dressed like a Native American. Parent ELAINE BOLMAN found that part offensive, so she complained to the school and the performance was cancelled. Bolman says she expects the school faculty to "make the right choices so all students of any culture and race won't feel singled out." (Still)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
The person who leaked the Jay Z elevator video got busted by his employers yesterday and has been fired.
That employee sold the now-infamous Met Brawl video to TMZ.
A spokesperson for the Standard Hotel said the perpetrator was terminated for --quote-- "breaching the security polices of the hotel and recording the confidential CCTV video" from one of the hotel's elevators. As we all know, these cell phone videos of surveillance tapes have become commonplace.
And the hotel has turned over all available information to criminal authorities. But whoever the leak is, he or she can probably spring for a good defense attorney. According to the NY Post, TMZ shelled out around a quarter-million dollars for the footage.
Phoner: That person deserved to be canned for breaking a rule they agreed to as an employee and selling a private video that wasn't theirs, but if it were you, would you do it for a hefty payday from a tabloid website? Let's see, you could work at The Standard for $10 an hour, or sell a video for $250 grand. But if you lose the job and then faces criminal charges, that $250k is gone anyway... to your lawyer. Worth it? (Maiman)So why did BEYONCE's sister SOLANGE go off on JAY-Z? The New York Daily News says it's because he wanted to go ditch his wife and sister-in-law and go party with RIHANNA. Beyonce, Jay-Z and Solange were leaving the Met Museum Gala's after-party at the Standard Hotel on May 5th when Jay-Z said he was going to Rihanna's party instead of heading home with his wife. Solange was reportedly kinda tispy and said to her sister, "Why does your husband need to go to the club right now?" That made Jay-Z angry and he shot back with, "You're one to talk." That's when Solange started hitting and kicking Jay-Z. This all happened in an elevator.
Jay was already upset with Solange because a few minutes before all of this happened, she tried to get some of her friends into the after-party. They were not invited, and not dressed for the occasion. And, they claimed to be with Jay-Z, not Solange. So, he told Solange, "don't use my name." That's when he decided to head over to Rihanna's party, leaving his wife and sister-in-law to get home by themselves. (Marino)Reality Round-Up:
Has GIULIANA RANCIC lost her marbles? The star of "Giuliana & Bill" has been considering the idea of a little nip and tuck and decided to ask JOAN RIVERS for advice on plastic surgery! The elder comedienne believes the "sooner the better" when it comes to going under the knife and thinks it's better to have "a new face coming out of an old car than an old face coming out of a new car."
