Guilty Pleasures:
Ever feel really depressed after checking Facebook? There's a reason for that.
Well, there are several reasons, but new research claims that moods on Facebook are contagious. As in, you read a post whining about someone's terrible life, and suddenly you feel worse. Researchers tried to figure out "whether exposure to verbal affective expressions leads to similar verbal expressions, a form of emotional contagion," which in non-science terms means that after seeing a friend's post in a certain mood inspires someone else to make a post in the same mood. The study looked at over three million posts.
The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, stated, "people who had positive content reduced in their News Feed, a larger percentage of words in people's status updates were negative and a smaller percentage were positive. When negativity was reduced, the opposite pattern occurred." (AB)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
Update: Olympic swimmer AMY VAN DYKEN ROUEN is recovering like a champ. Despite severing her spine after an awful ATV accident early this month, the 41-year-old mom is in great spirits and logging her path to wellness on Instagram. Amy made her first transfer to a wheelchair last Saturday, said she was "boot scooting all over the halls" and posted a photo of man who saved her life!
Amazingly, she actually did a Crossfit workout with the first responder the morning of the wreck and considers him "MyAngel."
Phone starter: Do you have a real-life guardian angel? What happened? (Lee)Update:
Now that Countdown legend CASEY KASEM has passed, everybody wants to know whether the feuding between his wife and children has ended, or whether there will be controversy about where the broadcast legend will be buried.
However, the NY Daily News says Casey's three oldest children have no plans to fight their estranged stepmom over his final resting place. And they already have plans to hold a memorial service next weekend without any physical remains.
No word yet on where JEAN KASEM plans to have him interred.Cops & robbers:
Three suspects in California have been charged with armed robbery, even though their weapon was fake.
Police in El Cajon say three masked men robbed Hiram's Guns and Spirits last Friday armed with a replica handgun. They smashed cases and ran out with several real firearms. They made their getaway in a sedan, but cops arrested them a short time later. A 20-year-old and two juveniles have been charged with armed robbery. Nobody was hurt.
Editor's note: In other news: The shop sells "Guns and Spirits"? What could possibly go wrong? (Still)Grace notes:
It's not an official reunion, but GENESIS, including PETER GABRIEL, got together recently to work on a documentary for the BBC. "Together And Apart" follows the band's entire career and the solo work from most of its members. The BBC says original guitarist ANTHONY PHILLIPS is not mentioned, and you won't hear a word about RAY WILSON, the singer who replaced PHIL COLLINS for the "Calling All Stations" album. The film will eventually be released on DVD and Blu-ray. There are rumors of a concert at some point, with Peter Gabriel, but nothing has been announced... yet. (Marino)
