He's dead, Jim:
STEVE ROSSI, the "straight man" for MARTY ALLEN in the comedy team, Allen & Rossi. He died at 82 Sunday at a Las Vegas hospice. The guys got together in 1957 and appeared on hundreds of TV shows --including 40 appearances on "Ed Sullivan." One of those was when THE BEATLES appeared for the first time. They also had a lifetime contract in Las Vegas at the Vegas World casino, which is now the Stratosphere, and appeared on game shows and recorded 16 comedy albums as well. His partner, Marty, is still kickin' at 92 years old.
The New York Times obit has a segment of an interview in which Steve said "Marty and I opened for SINATRA. I went to his dressing room. I said, 'Frank. We're very nervous. Can you give us some advice?' He said, 'Yeah, kid. First: Do the best you can. Second: Give 'em all you got. Third and most important: Remember, they didn't come to see you in the first place'."The First Family at play:
Is PRESIDENT OBAMA starting to scope out some post presidency digs? Variety reports that the president and First Lady MICHELLE OBAMA might have their eyes on a home in the exclusive Thunderbird Heights area of Rancho Mirage, CA.
That home currently belongs to designer and former HBO honcho JAMES COSTOS, the present U.S. ambassador to Spain and Andorra, and a prominent campaign donor. No word if it's definitely for sale or not. (Pacelli)Fast Food:
Brace yourself for sticker shock at Starbucks. Coffee sellers are facing higher costs for Arabica beans because a drought has hurt yields in Brazil, the world's top producer.
Bloomberg News says Starbucks' price increases take effect today: medium and large-sized brewed coffee will increase by about 10 cents to 15 cents in most of Starbucks's U.S. cafes, while small and large-sized lattes and mochas will be 15 cents to 20 cents more expensive in some of its outlets. Food and iced-coffee frappuccino prices won't change. (Kaye)Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
TAYLOR SWIFT has a problem most girls would kill for as ORLANDO BLOOM is seriously crushing on the country cutie. The National Enquirer reports the "Pirates" hottie has been bombarding her with text messages and phone calls and even moved in to her New York apartment building. Unfortunately, she's playing hard to get and doesn't want to ruin friendships with his ex, MIRANDA KERR, or rumored fling, SELENA GOMEZ. (Lee)
Fashion Emergency:
And another pop culture fashion phenomenon bites the dust... Last week, Juicy Couture announced it was closing all of its U-S stores. New York magazine's The Cut says the velour tracksuit was the uniform of choice for all the "celebutantes" of the early 2000s. The loungewear with classy messages like "Juicy" emblazoned across the butt was seen every wear --on PARIS HILTON during "The Simple Life's" run, EVA LONGORIA during the "Desperate Housewives" era, on Summer Roberts on "The O.C." and on just about all of the original "Mean Girls." Survivor: real life:
An Oregon woman was injured during a porta-potty explosion on Saturday.
It happened at a park in the town of Aloha on Saturday. 40-year-old KARI FINCH was in the portable bathroom when a suspicious device exploded, injuring the back of her head. She says, "There was no wick, there was no smell, so it had to be something that was chemically reactive." Finch taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say two other similar devices exploded in other areas of the park. So far, they don't have a suspect or a motive, but witnesses think they saw a teenage boy acting suspiciously in the area.
