Overnight Briefing & General Reality Check - Feb 24, 2015

What's the Buzz:
Marijuana is legal in Alaska, starting today, as Alaska becomes the third state to legalize recreational marijuana.
As of today you can smoke it, grow it and possess it without a fine, but you cannot smoke it in public yet.
The legalization, which was voted last November, only lets people smoke it in private places, which means that while possession is no longer a crime under state law, enjoying pot in public can bring a $100 fine.
NBC News reports Anchorage, Alaska's Police Chief MARK MEW said his officers will be strictly enforcing the public smoking ban. He even warned people against smoking on their porches if they live next to a park. But other officials --up in North Pole, Alaska, for example-- say smoking outdoors on private property will be OK as long as it doesn't create a nuisance.
Bid'ness is Bid'ness:
The Walt Disney Company announced that they're raising the price of admission at the "Happiest Place on Earth" --their U.S. theme parks. Starting Sunday, the price of admission at Disney World in Florida goes from $99 a day to $105 a day --above $100 for the first time ever. Tickets to one of the other three Florida theme parks ---Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios-- went from $94 to $97.
And Disneyland in California will go from $96 a day to $99 a day.

Oscars Night Fashion Fallout:
Burning question from the Oscars that's still unanswered... what's the real story behind LADY GAGA'S red kitchen gloves? Some people are saying they were actually made of leather. Others swear they were rubber dishwashing gloves. The oddly-shaped gloves launched a million memes --mostly a variation on the "Lady Gaga in the kitchen" theme. But we need to know --were those gloves a designer number? Did she buy them at Wal-Mart? Were they really oven mitts? Was she inspired by AMAL CLOONEY's white opera-length gloves at the Golden Globes? Inquiring minds with nothing better to do need to know! (Bartha)
Editor's note: Meme not yet seen, but needs to be made... Lady Gaga in her red gloves helping Walter White and Jessie in the "Breaking Bad" superlab! Get on that, Internet! (Bartha)
Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
The most Shazamed tune from the Academy Awards telecast on Sunday was not "Glory" from the movie, "Selma." Yes, it won the Oscar for Best Original Song, and was performed on the show by JOHN LEGEND and COMMON. But, the song viewers wanted to know more about was "Lost Stars" from the film, "Begin Again." MAROON 5 performed it live, and the song was written by GREGG ALEXANDER and DANIELLE BRISBOIS. They used to be in a band called NEW RADICALS that had a Top Five hit in 1998 with "You Get What You Give." (Marino)
Good timing award:
Karma, yeah, she rides London Underground in the U.K. A man was on his way to a job interview and taking the British subway there. MATT BUCKLAND was on the same train and stepped in the other passenger's way as the train came to a stop, to let someone else pass. So job interview man pushed past Matt and made sure to tell him to go (blank) himself.
Matt went to work and later that afternoon sat down to conduct interviews for a web development position when --you guessed it-- the pushy, nasty passenger entered his office! The guy didn't remember Matt until Matt reminded him of the incident. Sadly, but not surprisingly, the guy didn't get the gig although Matt says it had nothing to do with his rude behavior earlier in the day. (Myers)
