Posturing, Posing and Press Releases:
CA Democratic Congresswoman and U.S. Senate candidate LORETTA SANCHEZ apologized yesterday for letting loose with a Native American "war cry" gesture that disrupted the opening phase of her campaign. At the state Democratic Party in Anaheim, she said that Native Americans "know that I have always had their backs ... And they know what many of you don't know --that like so many Mexican Americans, I am proudly Native American on my mother's side."
Sanchez made the controversial gesture Saturday while joking with a group of Indian Americans about confusing an Indian American with a Native American. Video on Twitter and YouTube showed Sanchez tapping her hand to her mouth in an imitation of a war cry.
Editor's note: That's a special kind of stupid, right there. (Pacelli)The Airlines:
Kind of a frightening revelation over the weekend when CHRIS ROBERTS, who founded the cybersecurity firm, One World Labs, claimed he was able to hack into a plane's in-flight entertainment system and change the plane's direction and climb --right from his seat.
The London Guardian reports Chris was "escorted" from a United Airlines flight last month after sending tweets during the flight bragging that he could deploy the oxygen masks.
In fact, he reportedly told investigators that he'd accessed various plane's computer systems more than a dozen times since 2011, by attaching an ethernet cable directly to the "Seat Electronic Box" that can be found under some seats.
Chris told Wired magazine his feat has caused United Airlines to launch a "bug bounty" reward which offers up to a million free air-miles to any friendly (or "White Knight") hackers who could uncover weaknesses in their corporate computer systems. However, the reward specifically rules out bounty for bugs uncovered on "on-board Wi-Fi, entertainment systems or avionics."Parent(s) of the Day:
A pair of foster parents were arrested in Florida for allegedly leaving their children out in the sun too long.
Police in Daytona Shores say MOUNIR EL-RHAZOUANI and his wife REBECCA ignored their children's pleas to let them come in out of the sun. The family was vacationing at the Hawaiian Inn and witnesses say the kids were sunburned and banging on the hotel room door. Staff members told officers the children appeared to be dehydrated and sunburned and had asked to go inside several times. The couple has been charged with two counts of child neglect. (Still)TV Briefs:
Could you see JUDE LAW as the POPE?
Variety says Jude will play the first Italian-American pope in history in the upcoming Law TV series, "The Young Pope," on HBO.
The eight-episode series is being shot in Italy this summer, with Jude as a conservative American Pope recruited by "a Vatican which is fed up with liberals."Morons on Parade:
One California Highway Patrol officer is in big trouble for pulling over 100 cars that were traveling too slow on the freeway. Turns out it a funeral procession heading to the famous Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. The lead traffic motorcycle was pulled over the entire procession followed him.
The procession ended up being an hour late for the funeral service and some people didn't even make it. The CHP has extended their deepest sympathies to the family for the inconvenience. (Myers) -
