Labor Day TV marathons:
If you want to catch up on "Empire" --or find out what all the buzz is about because you haven't seen the show-- you can catch up with it because starting Monday at noon, FOX will be running the complete first season of the show... winding up at 11 pm.
On the roads this weekend:
Triple-A (AAA) is projecting that 35.5 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over this Labor Day weekend. That's the most travelers for this weekend since 2008 when analysts found some 31 million Americans took a break in the middle of the recession. (Kaye)
Bad weekend to drive:
We reviewed stats from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the worst days to drive a couple of months ago, but just a reminder --this holiday weekend is the second worst weekend of the year to drive if you'd like to avoid an accident (the July Fourth weekend being the first).
It's probably because the warm weather, trips to the beach, and that last, beer-filled BBQ party of the summer all correlate with automobile collisions.Models:
KARLIE KLOSS is much more than just another pretty face. The Victoria's Secret stunner is hiding a big brain beneath her perfect figure and is headed to New York University! The supermodel posted a photo of herself beneath the school's signature flags on Instagram saying that she hasn't "been this nervous in years."
Word is she's enrolled in an Independent Study course and calls education an "great investment in me." The catwalker is a big believer in the power of smarts and funded a $20-thousand dollar scholarship to a few lucky young ladies who are studying computer coding. (Lee)Grace notes:
BLACK SABBATH officially announced its farewell tour yesterday. "The End" kicks off in Omaha on January 20th, 2016, with the first run of U.S dates booked through February 25th at New York's Madison Square Garden. Then, it's off to Australia and New Zealand. More dates will be revealed next month. Original members OZZY OSBOURNE, guitarist TONY IOMMI and bassist GEEZER BUTLER are all on board. Drummer BILL WARD dropped out of any and all reunion plans because of a contract dispute. The drummer for this tour will probably be TOMMY CLUFETOS from Ozzy's solo group. (Marino)
Techno-geek-a-zoid crap:
With the help of a bionic suit, researchers say they have enabled a paralyzed man to take thousands of steps during a five-day training session, and for the two weeks that followed. The patient --a 39-year-old man named MARK POLLACK, who was paralyzed from the waist down four years ago from a severe fall-- is the first completely paralyzed person to walk on his own.
Popular Science says Pollack was able to walk again thanks in part to a non-invasive spinal stimulation technique called epidural electrical stimulation. He also followed a drug protocol using buspirone to stimulate nerves and induce leg movements. (Bartha) -
