Bad luck:
A woman in England blew her nose so hard she got a black eye.
The unidentified 32-year-old woman showed up at the hospital with her eye swollen the size of a golf ball. She explained to doctors that it happened right after she "forcefully" blew her nose. Doctors at the Leicester Royal Infirmary University Hospital confirmed that blowing your nose with too much gusto can cause pressure to build up, damaging the optic nerve. If left untreated, it can lead to blindness. In this case, the woman is expected to recover. (Still)Health and Medical Briefs:
A new study has found that the active ingredient in most over-the-counter cold medications is no more effective than a sugar pill. The ingredient is the nasal decongestion ingredient, phenylephrine hydrochloride (P-E-H-C-l). That's significant because CBS News says Americans spend $8-billion dollars a year on over-the-counter medications.
Most over-the-counter cold remedies used to contain a different chemical called pseudoephedrine. That was actually proven effective a nasal decongestant. But when pseudoephedrine abuse to make illegal drugs like meth skyrocketed, a 2005 federal law added new restrictions to buying it. If you want the cold medicine with the ingredient that works, you have to ask for it (brand name: Sudafed) at the pharmacy counter and show I-D. (Bartha)The Reel Deal:
New movie from "Police Academy" and "Three Men and a Baby" star STEVE GUTTENBERG in the works.
Variety says "Lookin' Up" is about a guy who loses his job as a bank teller thanks to an ATM the company installs, and in his resulting depression, he decides to murder his wife (who's cheating on him), along with his mother-in-law and his daughter, who's responsible for selling his favorite dog. But before he can start the killing, each of the women wind up dead, thanks to bizarre incidents --and guess who gets blamed? In the Dumper:
Probably not the best idea to dress as a suicide bomber at trick or treat at a military base. A soldier at Fort Bragg in North Carolina actually thought it was a great costume and it triggered an emergency response. A gate was cleared and a bomb disposal team was called in. The soldier hasn't been identified. (Myers)
Popped by the cops:
MICHAEL LOHAN, Jr. is a chip off the old block and racked up his first arrest! RadarOnline.com reports the 27-year-old brother of LINDSAY was popped for displaying a phony parking pass bearing the New York state seal on his 2015 Audi last Thursday. Mr. Lohan is now facing charges of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the third degree, Criminal Impersonation in the second degree and heads back to court on December 14th. (Lee)
