Doing a little last-minute shopping for the big day? The U-S Census Bureau loves to tabulate obscure statistics related to some 20 holidays throughout the year; Thanksgiving is no exception. The typical American eats 13.7 pounds of turkey and 4.7 pounds of sweet potatoes annually.
America's favorite pies:
--Pumpkin, 63 percent
--Apple, 26 percent
--Pecan, 7 percent
--lemon meringue, 6 percent
--sweet potato, 5 percent
--chocolate cream, 4 percent
--coconut custard, 3 percentFilling a need:
Hey guys --want to give your girlfriend a Thanksgiving she'll never, ever forget? Better book some tickets to the Big Apple, 'cuz The Old Homestead Steakhouse in Manhattan is offering the holiday of a lifetime! Fox News reports the restaurant is serving up Wagyu beef from Japan, Foie gras, sourdough bread, cranberry-orange relish, creamy mashed potatoes, butternut squash, sweet potatoes and --of course-- turkey, along with an emerald-cut engagement ring inside!
But wait --there's more! You'll get a dish of pumpkin ice cream for dessert, topped off with two tickets in the grandstand for Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, a $5-thousand dollar Black Friday shopping spree at Bergdorf Goodman and two-night stay at the Waldorf Astoria complete with limo service. All this can be yours for the low, low price of $45-thousand dollars. (Lee)On, off and way-off-Broadway:
"Magic Mike" will take it all off on Broadway. Playbill.com says a reading of the musical stage version happened in New York City last week and it's looking great. The show is a prequel to the two "Magic Mike" movies and follows Mike Lane from his struggling college days through his evolution to male stripper. Nothing has been scheduled yet, but the "Magic Mike" musical will probably land on Broadway for the 2016-2017 season. (Marino)
