The President at play:
Ooooops!!!
PRESIDENT OBAMA wrapped up a town hall in Baton Rouge, LA, yesterday with a bit of a geographical mistake. At McKinley Senior High School, he said, "If you want to see change, you've got to make it happen ... When I ran for office in 2007, 2008, I did not say, 'Yes I can.' I said, 'Yes we can.'"
He then wrapped up with, "God bless you, love you. Thank you, New Orleans! God bless America." (Pacelli)The Internet:
It should come as no surprise that more colleges and universities are using social media to vet prospective students. College prep firm Kaplan recently conducted a survey of around 400 college admissions officers around the country, with 40 percent of them saying they check the social media profiles of applicants.
They're not just looking for negative factors; 42 percent of admissions officers say applicants actually invite them to look at the profile to demonstrate a special talent, with 37 percent saying what they found positively impacted an application.
However, the same percentage says negative factors discovered on social media had a negative impact on applications --things like criminal activity, photos of drug or alcohol use, and racial prejudice, among others.
Admissions officers check social media to verify awards or citations, to find out more about any criminal record or disciplinary action mentioned by an applicant, and sometimes to ensure that applicants seeking special scholarships are truly deserving.
But here's the creepy/pathetic finding from the survey: some admissions officers mentioned anecdotally that they've checked social media because of an anonymous tip pointing to inappropriate behavior, in what Kaplan refers to as "competitive admissions sabotage." (Kaye)Chic Sh*t:
Virgin Galactic --the commercial spaceline from RICHARD BRANSON-- has tapped Japanese designer YOHJI YAMAMOTO and Adidas's Y-3 to create its exclusive space apparel. Racked.com says the sportswear brand has been brought in to provide flight suits and boots for all future astronauts, pilots, and space shuttle crew. Virgin Galactic unveiled the very stylish all-black new uniforms in the Mojave desert, where future Virgin Galactic space voyages will take off from. (Bartha)
Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
Since that original March 31st DAVID BOWIE tribute show at New York's Carnegie Hall sold out hours after his death, even though it's been in the works and on sale for weeks, a second concert will go on April 1st at Radio City Music Hall. Some of the lineup is the same for both shows with the New York Times saying CAT POWER, ANN WILSON of HEART and POLYPHONIC SPREE are set for the second concert which goes on sale today at 11am Eastern.
