Fast Food:
PATTI LaBELLE is about to get some serious competition...at the freezer case. ARETHA FRANKLIN told Detroit TV station WDIV's Local 4 News that Patti's sweet potato pie at Walmart will have to move to the side. The Queen of Soul says she's working on her own line of food that will include chili, gumbo, baked chicken and dressing.
Meanwhile, Aretha is donating food and hotel rooms to anyone who needs them in Flint, Michigan. The water contamination problem hits home for Aretha since she lives in Detroit, and she wants to do whatever she can to help out. (Marino)If you're a fan of McDonald's Shamrock Shake, it looks like you'll also be able to get something similar at Burger King.
They're adding a new flavor of their Oreo Shake which adds mint to the mix, along with a Dr. Pepper Shake as well.
The fast food giant is also adding Jalapeño Chicken Fries to its menu for a limited time.Everyday heroes:
The woman famous for staging the longest protest in United States history has died.
70-year-old CONCEPCION PICCIOTTO died in a Washington, D.C. homeless shelter on January 25th. Picciotto, originally from Spain, joined an anti-nuclear demonstration outside the White House back in 1981 --and never left. She set up a tent directly across from the White House for 35-years, remaining there until her passing. In addition to her protest efforts, Picciotto was known for wearing a helmet which she claimed repelled radio waves beamed at her from the Central Intelligence Agency. (Still)Fashion Emergency:
Business casual pajamas exist. This is a new apparel line called "Bammies" --for "business jammies," of course. Mashable.com says the line "caters to women who want to seamlessly transition from the home to the office and then out for a night on the town. The first six-piece collection includes a pajama blazer, pajama top, pajama t-shirt, pajama gaucho pants and a dress/nightgown. They're taking pre-orders on their website now. Prices range from $80 to $170, or you can buy the whole collection for under $750 bucks.
Editor's note: I don't need business casual pajamas. All of my clothes already look like I slept in them. (Bartha)Sucking Up:
Heading into today's Iowa Caucuses, the New York Times has endorsed HILLARY CLINTON for the Democratic presidential primary and JOHN KASICH in the GOP race.
For Madame Hillary, the paper said, "Hillary Clinton would be the first woman nominated by a major party... She served as a senator from a major state (New York) and as secretary of state --not to mention her experience on the national stage as first lady with her brilliant and flawed husband, President BILL CLINTON."
As far as Kasich's candidacy, the Times --in a slightly back-handed way, said, "(Kasich is) the only plausible choice for Republicans tired of the extremism and inexperience on display in this race... Still, as a veteran of partisan fights and bipartisan deals during nearly two decades in the House, he has been capable of compromise and believes in the ability of government to improve lives."
