First Day of Summer!
Happy summer solstice! Today is the first day of summer and the longest daylight of 2016 for everyone living north of the equator. Vox.com says this year's solstice is extra special because it comes on the same day as the "strawberry moon" --this is the first time in 70 years that's happened. But that doesn't mean the moon will look like a strawberry. According to the Old Farmers Almanac, full moons in June were traditionally referred to as "strawberry moons" by Native Americans because that was the month strawberries were picked. (Bartha)
Trash talk and satellite dish:
Ugly new details are seeping out about TAYLOR SWIFT and CALVIN HARRIS' breakup. Sources tell TMZ.com the country-turned-pop princess broke up with the DJ over the phone, which is particularly brutal considering she called out JOE JONAS for pulling the same dirty trick in 2008! Word is T-Swizzle said she needed "space" and poor Calvin was shocked, but seems to be recovering nicely --he laughed out loud when reporters asked if they'd be reuniting late last week. (Lee)
Animal stories:
Deputies in Colorado say a man tried to sneak a very unique item into the courthouse.
The unidentified man reportedly tried to get through security at the Boulder County Justice Center with a suitcase. But, an x-ray showed a strange outline inside his bag. Cops say a quick inspection revealed a live iguana hidden in the man's bag. Officers denied the man entry but he wasn't arrested. Police say they've had people try to sneak in various pets before, but never an iguana. It's unclear why he wanted to bring the pet inside. (Still)Fast Food:
New to you --Pillsbury is making Girl Scout cookie baking mixes.
Refinery 29 reports there'll be Girl Scout Cookie flavored brownie, blondie, and cupcake baking mixes --and also available in "Thin Mint" and "Caramel and Coconut" flavors for just $3.29 a box.
Talkable: Does this ruin the once-a-year jonesing for the real thing? And why buy the cookies from the Scouts if you can make 'em yourself?Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
If you bought a ticket from Tickemaster anytime between 1999 and 2003, you may have some free seats waiting for you. Gawker says Ticketmaster just settled a $400-million dollar class-action suit over all of those extra fees it charged you during that period. The free tickets you may be entititled to are for Live Nation events only ...but that's pretty much everything, so have at it! Log into your Ticketmaster account and under "Your Account," click on "Active Vouchers." (Marino)
