Holiday gift-giving ...and re-gift-giving:
Wotta surprise: a survey shows nearly 40 percent of US adults have re-gifted. For those uninitiated, that means getting a gift from somebody and then turning around and giving it to someone else. Frighteningly, this is about the same as last year.
Worse, only eight percent say they've ever been caught at the practice. Although maybe the person who got the gift was being polite, because another 32 percent --about one-third-- say they're sure they got a re-gift.
Phoner: By the way, the same survey asked people what the most awkward gift they ever received was. Some of the answers:
--Bag of dog food. I have a cat.
--A boyfriend of one month bought me an engagement ring that I turned down.
--Three expired bottles of barbeque sauce.
--A giant box of condoms from my mother, who said she didn't want grandchildren any time soon.
--Jar of hemorrhoid pads.
--Gift card with zero balance on it.
--Glow-in-the-dark handcuffs.
--A used fanny pack with a boot print on it.On, off and way-off-Broadway:
The classic 1938 MARX BROTHERS movie, "Room Service" was a stage play a year before that. EDDIE ALBERT and SAM LEVENE starred in the original Broadway production. There have been a few revivals over the years, but Playbill.com says a new one will open on Broadway for the 2017-2018 season. No casting yet, but that will come soon. (Marino)
Fashion Emergency:
LADY GAGA has her own personal on-call bedazzler.(As should we all!) KERIN ROSE GOLD is a designer ready at a moment's notice with a glue gun and crystals for her Gaga-ness. Gold told the New York Postshe's used almost 50-thousand crystals and 15 yards of crystal mesh fabric on the singer. The designer's most recent showstoppers include the Saint Laurent boots covered in pink crystals that Gaga wore for her "Saturday Night Live" appearance and Calvin Klein Collection boots for the Los Angeles stop of her Dive Bar Tour. Stars and their movies:
Nice! To honor JOHN GLENN after his passing last week at the age of 95, AMC Theatres has decided to show "The Right Stuff" this week in 95 locations, including major markets like New York and Los Angeles, as well as smaller locations. The movie is of course about NASA's original seven Mercury astronauts and ED HARRIS stars as John Glenn in the film.
It's being shown today and tomorrow at 2 pm and 7 pm.Tonight's the night that "Allegiance," the Broadway musical that starred GEORGE TAKEI in a four-month run last season, will be in theatres around the country --for one night only.
The movie is about how Japanese-Americans were interned during World War II. Varietyreports the story is loosely based on George's childhood, and also stars former "Miss Saigon" actress LEA SALONGA as well. The screening will also reportedly feature behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the show's creators and cast members. -
