Free turkeys are roasting all over the country today. The 'free' turkey is most likely given from the grocery store 'she' frequents because a certain amount of money had been spent in the last few weeks. Whether she's cooking a free or fresh bird depends on taste and finances. Some cook both. Those who feed a large crowd might cook two birds or add in a ham or lasagna for their vegetarians at the table.
Remember the basics: sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, the Macy's Parade and grandma's house and help her cook if she'll let you. This list of holiday help numbers and websites can place you smack dab right in the kitchen with the chef who forgets what the internal temperature needs to be in order for Mr. Tom Turkey to be finished to perfection. And, don't forget clean up; it might take 12 minutes to eat a meal that took a day to prepare, but cleaning up can take up a whole quarter of the football game.
