Taking the time to use a French Press is worth it. It makes a great cup of whatever it is you are pressing. This column is caffeine based, so we are pressing coffee! I like to use a fair trade brand from Trader Joe's, or an unknown brand that is step or two above Maxwell House. After measuring and almost boiling the proper amount of water I mix the two together, take a whiff and wait four minutes, which can seem very long early in the morning. Again, worth the wait, but you might want to prep the night before. I press, pour it over fat free half and half, stir gently and totally enjoy a smooth cup of Joe. I've figured out my perfect water/grounds measurement and purposely only make two cups at a time, otherwise I'd be a jittery mess. And since coffee is one of my necessary forms of show prep I am going to start pressing twice a day. Once in the morning and later to fill a thermos for work. Really, why pay Starbucks when I can make a tastier brew?
