Today marks the anniversary of 9-11. I was working in New York during this time on Jammin' 105. The night prior to 9-11 my station and WKTU celebrated The Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Special, which featured two concerts that took place at Madison Square Garden. There was a big after party at Tavern on the Green and Michael was there.
These concerts are mentioned in the VH1 biopic Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story, which notes that the last of the two concerts wrapped up just hours before two hijacked jet planes crashed into the Twin Towers of Lower Manhattan's World.
Michael Jackson was getting a diamond watch from Bank of America to wear for the show that was valued at about $2 million. They were due to bring it right back to the Bank of American Office right on the morning to the office that was located in the Twin Towers. As they were driving away, Michael Jackson was looking at the first tower falling and said "Wow" but stopped since his two children were in the car with him. Later, he started talking about how he might be able to use the song, "What More Can I Give" to raise money for the survivors of the 9/11 attacks.
I'm connecting these two dots to encourage you to not focus on the loss but to celebrate the children we have on this day. In the midst of all the tragedy and chaos most people focus directly on their family and most importantly and especially on the children. She Vents
