I've been moving my oldest daughter into an apartment off campus for her last semester of college. She's living with three other female roommates, which for me means plenty of good content for this column! Two girls were already established inside the apartment while my daughter and her friend were the newbies. My first trip to Walmart had my youngest daughter shocked at the overflowing cart of housewares; paper towels, toilet paper, swiffer stuff, cleaning supplies, pillows, etc. It was an exhausting trip as she/they needed everything. Next came the cleaning of the apartment. Conveniently, all roommates except my daughter were gone the day we came heavy handed with bleach. There were four of us, armed only with rubber gloves and scrub brushes and we were not afraid to use them. A good five hours later and we were able to look back and see counter space, clean floors, and the bathroom smelled fresh. This was a real sense of accomplishment. The next day we tackled the bedroom and made it livable. This was very bittersweet, as I remember her childhood bedrooms. Now I know this apartment won't stay looking this nice, and that's fine. I'll come back over the holidays and do another round, plus I'll bring cookies. When it comes down to it, who likes to by dish soap and use it? The gift is in the doing. I know if someone came to my house and made the walls cry I'd be pretty happy.
Now, what to do about the one roommate that thinks its ok to leave her cats littler box in the kitchen...eww. I know I've already mentioned that its a health hazard. Any suggestions? She Buzz Words
