Her month is going to be a visual representation of the saying "it happens." A perfectly planned-out week can be mixed up by unexpected, yet realistic events: a snow storm, a trip to the emergency room for a child who tripped over a toy (she told him to clean his room); a late night out with a girlfriend who just acquired last- minute concert tickets (she's been needing a girl's night out); or a ride in a tow truck because her car broke down (she's been meaning to check out that engine rattle).
New Year's resolutions are either a thing of the past or a goal she is really struggling to make happen. Static cling and winter's dry air have fabric softener and lotion consistently on her shopping list, right under Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and Dole Ready Pac Salad. She's forced to look ahead to book that flight for a summer trip or to enroll in a class that will get her closer to a degree; not just because her calendar fills up fast, but so she can budget accordingly. Proms, graduations (all ages), birthdays, and anniversaries can really challenge a budget. She is reminded of this as tax forms fill her mailbox, along with numerous catalogues that want her business. She's preparing for President's weekend either by planning a trip, or childcare for her kids due to this school holiday. Television shows like the Real Housewives from somewhere try to glamorize a woman's role, but instead present a busy, complicated yet well-accessorized and wealthy life that is far different from the days of a real-life working mom.
