I never thought I'd purchase so many shoes in my life that weren't for me. Something happens to a child's foot after 6th grade; it keeps on growing. My daughter has gone through 20 pairs of shoes in the last two years. These include school shoes, snow boots, track shoes, dress shoes, sandals, and slippers. Most of these shoes don't get close to being worn out; they get passed on to my friend's daughter, who tends to stay one size behind my daughter's foot. The brand of the shoe is very important too. Thankfully, the popular Converse brand doesn't break the bank and retailers like Target and Kohl's have good knockoffs. But kids find status in the brand, and a pair of Uggs, DCs, or Rocket Dogs can really take a chunk out of the budget. And women do more shopping for their family than they do for their own needs. I know there are plenty of jokes about women and shopping and shoes—okay, maybe the shoe jokes are deserved—but her family has so many needs, she has to go shopping whether she likes it or not.
