www.Professorshouse.com states "Today US coffee drinkers consume approximately 3.1 cups per day on average, with the cup size being nine ounces. Fifty-two percent of Americans over the age of eighteen drink coffee every morning, and on top of that, thirty percent of the population drinks coffee occasionally, meaning that over eighty percent of Americans consume coffee." The amount spent on coffee has my great-grandmother reminding me how much a can of Maxwell House cost along with the scent of the percolator.
Ones need for caffeine has allowed one small bean to grow into millions of dollars. Let's face it, as the calendar continues to bring on another year it also brings on a generation of sleepy people. I remember my father, who worked long hard days and nights drinking coffee constantly. My mother not so much. Me, I must have this elixir first thing in the morning and then again by 3:00 in the afternoon otherwise I'll drop from consciousness. Truly if 3:30 rolls around and I've not had my cup of joe I get a little off, a little cranky and very tired. My kids have taken to asking me if I had my afternoon dose prior to their asking for a favor. I hare being this predictable but it's true. My body needs this help to get over the midday slump. I'm sure some nutritional journal would steer me towards something else like recommending more sleep ( not gonna happen) or maybe cranberry juice but the truth is I like coffee and everything about it; the taste, the buzz, the flavors, the options, the chemical reaction when I stir in milk. It's a great experience hot or iced for me and something I value everyday unless I get sick then I don't want to go near it. In fact this is when I notice I'm getting sick; when I've lost my taste for coffee. These cooler months have me drinking good ole black coffee with a drop of milk or a skinny vanilla latte; the ultimate chick drink next to a Cosmo which is a whole other column and TV show reference.
