The college application process has overtaken my life, and I'm not alone. Most parents with a high school senior are in the throes of assisting their children with applying to the places that will mold their next phase of life. Trips to visit prospective colleges have been bittersweet. There's a ton of paperwork involved, plus the overall process is exciting and intense. Some universities will take the Common App, an application that is generalized and available online. Most colleges require a special writing assignment, and all need transcripts and SAT scores sent- at a cost, of course.
During this process, I find myself very protective. First, the mental support a student needs is very important, as this is extra taxing and exciting for them too. Financially, the minimal cost to send an application is about sixty dollars. If a student applies to three or more colleges, this could easily start the continued education costs at over three hundred dollars. Add this to the already busy schedule a high school senior has, and I find that the calmer a typical day is, the better. Maybe this is another reason power ballads are so often requested? #classof2016
