Meeting up with a family that has small children at a restaurant is not the best way to spend quality time as the parents usually end up spending more time tending to the children and all their needs instead of engaging with their dinner party. Family friendly events that include simple opportunities like discounted family time at a zoo or an event complete with iPads for all can go over well. This is just a little Mother's Day nudge. Taking mom out to eat isn't always fun. Stocking her freezer with meals and preparing dinner is a gift! If you are having the relatives over to celebrate perhaps think ahead. One of the best was to connect with family is to have them over to your house for a meal; baby proof ahead of time if necessary, and tell mom ahead of time that you will cleanup everything after the guests leave. Then give the kids and the parents a safe place to be, where toys can be strewn and diapers can be changed, and where sippy cups will get lost and kids can not be too confined. This is why Grandma's house can be so popular. Kids know they are loved and welcome, and parents know that there is an immediate understanding that kids will be kids. Whether mom has a teenagaer who wants to borrow the car or a 4 year old with gum in her hair and 3 year old who "has to go potty right now!" She'll appreciate anyone trying to connect on her level this one day in particular.
