You've heard a million times ... Keep It Simple Stupid, right!
Well, KNUE in Tyler, TX felt the impact of that statement when it combined the idea with a very topical moment to create some real magic around the biggest Mega Millions jackpot in history.
Just look at their Facebook page today: facebook.com/1015KNUE
Over 40,000 likes, which is fantastic ... but look closer at the "Talking About" stat. Yes! KNUE has over 250,000 people talking about them.
So how did this sudden, massive engagement burst happen that took a small Country station and made them the talk of the moment?
KNUE simply used what everyone was talking about, the Mega Millions jackpot, and used the tools to create something for others to talk about through a valuable proposition around the station.
The folks there simply bought a Mega Millions ticket, snapped a photo of it and posted it on their Facebook page. They stated that one lucky winner would be chosen from everyone who likes and shares the station ticket post with a prize of $150 MILLION dollars ... *IF* it was the winning ticket for the Friday, March 30th, 2012 jackpot.
It had over 43,000 shares on my last count and I already pointed out the "Talking About" impact above.
Remember, there are only two kings of content.
- What is everyone talking about.
- What can be created to get people talking.
KNUE used this concept in a perfect way to generate more than just a like, a share, or a visit ... they ultimately created anticipation around this huge moment and that is the real value that will continue to keep on giving ... if they stay consistent now.
How many people do you think will be checking back to see what they will do next? I'm betting a lot, because they have demonstrated how the station can add value to big moments and make it matter for people. What will you do around the next big moment to be there, too?
This success demonstrates that anyone can make an impact if you stay focused on the end user and find a simple way to connect to make mega-moments happen over and over again.
