We are having our suite remodeled, and with that project comes the construction phase that accompanies every rebuild. In this case, we are rearranging space and offices to make the floor better suit our needs. It is interesting how all of the construction ties closely to your success in a career path.
IDENTIFY BEST CHANGES
We identified our change. This meant relocating offices, different walls, adding offices and so forth. In your career, this would be your recognizing that it is time for career change in order to grow to the next level. Once you know where you are headed, you can actually get there. But until you recognize and deal with this fact, the change for the better cannot happen.
DRAW UP THE PLANS
Sitting down, we took the time to look carefully at how our business flows and where we could stand to improve. From these original ideas and lots of input, we arrived at the perfect set of plans. After a few more tweaks and changes to those plans, we were ready to begin. This is the same as your career goals. Once you have them out, on paper, and finely tuned for your growth, then you can proceed to the next step.
This one was a lot of fun (and noisy). Tear down the walls, since the old place has to change before it can be built into the new place! In your career, this would be similar to scrapping the "old" ways you did things, and head to the "new" ways to accomplish your new career future. You may want to "demolish" some of your previous practices that were holding you back from having the perfect career track.
When the walls started going up, it was very educational to watch. Every detail on the plans had to be taken into account as the build progressed. Same in your career, as you begin to build your career, keep referring back to your career plans to be sure you are staying on track and headed in the right direction and where you want to go.
With the new walls built and finishing touches put on the suite, you can step back and take a look at the finished product and how it will help achieve our optimized business flow. With your career, you are now on track, have built your new direction, and are well on your way to success.
By following the simple steps of construction, you too can construct a successful career!
