The Two Biggest Goal-Setting Rules
February 17, 2015
This week in Success Tips, we'll take on two of the BIGGEST things you will want to use as you set your career goals for 2015.
The coming year of 2015 is full of promise and lots of opportunity. By being able to set goals and then go for those goals, you too can be a great success this year.
1. SET REASONABLE GOALS FOR YOU
You know what you can achieve. You are the best judge of your ability! As long as you are not sabotaging yourself with "I Can't" personal talk language, how far can you go?
Your goals must be reasonable for you personally to reach. While you may want to fly to the moon this year in a ship you build in your garage during the month of April 2015, the reality of physics dictate that your goal is probably not going be a realistic one. Alter that goal so there will be something to celebrate this month, something you envision and can achieve in the short term.
Identify what it would take for you to throw a party if that goal is achieved. That becomes your end goal, and the most immediate goal may be a point along that path. If you reach that intermediate goal, reward yourself.
2. SET A SPECIFIC TIME PERIOD
By setting the time frame where you accomplish a job, this gets you moving toward it. Procrastinators need not apply! This puts down on paper the WHEN you will accomplish something. Having spoken to many who have set goals like losing weight, this one is very important. "I want to lose 10 pounds by Summer" is an example. Know the what, and know the when.
Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, as they say. Be sure you are leaving yourself enough time to reach the goal. If you get too unrealistic, you will feel as though you are missing goal after goal, which will be demotivating for you and your progress.
By following these two very important rules, goals can become more productive and more fun! The more fun you have, the more you can achieve.
I'd love to hear about your goals and what your timeframes are! If you are embarking on a new goal, let me know if I can help in any way!
