The Feedback Loop
November 17, 2015
The truth is, there really isn't such a thing as constructive criticism. It's taken me years to learn that.
Criticism is judgmental, and being judged by others almost always hurts. Unless it's glowing, in which case it's probably not very constructive.
Coaching is very different from criticizing.
Coaching is teaching more effective methods than the student already knows.
Criticizing shines a very bright light on a problem and often brings an emotional response of shame and failure.
Coaching solves problems without damaging the ego or feelings of self-worth.
Obviously, some coaches are better than others.
If you're not seeing the individual growth you would like, you probably need a coach.
I know some great ones if you're interested, names you haven't heard of yet but with amazing track records of success in coaching to greatness.
