Best Buy's All That's Left. Sigh
-
Times change, but I'm pretty shocked that New York's iconic electronics and music store J&R is closing its retail store after 43 years. It's unclear what happens now: The online business is still open and apparently successful, but the company says they're planning a total redevelopment of their buildings and an "unprecedented retailing concept and social mecca." Hope so, but it already WAS a retailing concept and social mecca, where tech and music geeks like me would go -- I'd take the train up to Manhattan and the subway down to Park Row -- to browse the latest gadgets and records at J&R and buy cheaper records at Bondy's next door. Even if it does come back in a year or two, it won't be the same. (New York Daily News)
