English Isn't The Only Language, You Know
-
Friday and Saturday nights, a singer is going to perform before consecutive sellout crowds at Yankee Stadium. You've probably never heard of him. He's Romeo Santos, he sings bachata music (in, obviously, Spanish) with hip-hop infusions, he sells out places like Madison Square Garden and other large venues across America on a regular basis, and he might be the biggest music star whose name isn't a household word. And far from trying to cross over to the Anglo audience, he has people like Drake and Nicki Minaj trying to sing in Spanish on HIS records. Oh, and he's from that exotic locale, the Bronx. He's another example of how pop culture has expanded to the point where you can be a massive success with millions of fans and fly under the radar for practically everyone else on Earth.
