Bam, just like that, the Yankees suddenly announced that there'll be a retirement ceremony for Derek Jeter on September 7th, and ticket prices shot through the roof on the secondary market. Cheapest ticket went from $16 to $211, average went from $139 to $497 and rising. What's weird is that September 7th is about a month before his final regular season game, and for Mariano Rivera, they used the last Sunday home game, which is two weeks after this date. The assumption is that the Yankees didn't want to do it when they're out of the race, but, really, does that matter? (Newark Star-Ledger-NJ.com)
