Didn't Want Trouble, But Trouble's Finding Him Anyway
-
Tony Dungy says he wouldn't have drafted Michael Sam because he "wouldn't want to deal with all of it." He took pains to say that he thinks Sam should have a chance to play, but he thinks "things will happen" and he wouldn't want to deal with it. And, of course, now people are quite upset, especially since Dungy backed the rehabilitation of Michael Vick. But Dungy's a deeply religious guy, so what did anyone expect? On the other hand, is "I don't want to deal with it" a good excuse for anything? I mean, would you have respected baseball general managers saying "I don't want to deal with it" as an excuse not to sign a black player in the '40s? (Tampa Tribune)
